Each day I take our husky Louie for a walk on the path to ponds edge, when we return home I write about what I have seen. These poems are filled with many characters from owls to dragonflies and even deer. We have encountered darkness, fog, rain, wind, heat, humidity and sub-zero cold, the one constant in all of our adventures together is life. Ah Life, large as the universe small as an ant, filled with texture, light, shadows, sound, humor and dreams. Come with Louie and I on our journeys to ponds edge, it's a place nearby, your own back yard.

Sometimes the world can seem boring, harsh and hostile, especially to a teenager. This is certainly what it feels like for the American boy Ben, as he tries to get used to living in a foreign country after his parents’ divorce, when he never wanted to leave his home in the first place. He doesn’t like Budapest, and his new classmates are none too friendly either. He’s happiest retreating into his own little world with his cherished films about the Middle Ages to keep him company, daydreaming about his life as a knight in some parallel universe... Then something happens to make Ben’s wish come true – only not quite in the way he imagined. From one moment to the next, he finds himself transported to a strange, unfamiliar place with the talkative, inquisitive Maya, a girl from his new class at school. They have no idea how and why they got there, or what to make of this unpredictable, magical land. Then there is the mystery of the mysterious paintbrush that Ben found before their unusual journey, and what it has to do with the strange events that unfold. One thing is certain: they have to get to the bottom of the mysteries if they want to get home, but the adventures that await them turn out to be beyond their wildest imaginings.

This expressive novel follows John Ryan as he narrates his journey from adolescence to adulthood, detailing his struggles with an oppressive mother, his early sexual confusion and experimentation, and his family's and society's view of homosexuality as a shamefully perversion. It dramatically unfolds with expert attention to emotional nuance and colorful dialogue. The reader is immediately immersed in the darkness and claustrophobia of the narrator's world. The scenes detailing John's sexual experiences are vivid and intense; they are each unique and psychologically revealing. Though Youth is Gone is a compelling and interesting emotional portrait of a boy/man's journey.

The materialist philosophy that has dominated Western civilization for the past four hundred years is coming to an end. In "Only the Sacred: Transforming Education in the Twenty-first Century," we are introduced to a new vision of reality where we sense a more profound world within the material world we know so well. In this remarkable collection of articles originally published in "Chrysalis," a publication of the Center for Education, Imagination and the Natural World, we journey with twenty-three educators through an exploration of fundamental questions of our time, a path of inner schooling for educators, and practices where a new understanding of a sacred universe is actualized in diverse educational settings. Inspired by the mentoring of Thomas Berry, this collection makes it clear that the depth and fullness of the universe, from the stars in the heavens to the dirt beneath our feet, cannot be known by the intellect alone. Only a sense of the sacred, deep within the human soul, will reveal the whole.
