M, Vol. 2 In November 1732, 116 fettlers embarked for Georgia, to be conveyed thither free of expence, furnifhed with every thing requi fite for building and cultivating the foil. Nlr. Fame: Oglethorpe, one of the Truftees, and an actwe promoter of the fettlement, em barked as the head and director of thefe fettlers. They 'arrived at Char/(flown early in the next year. Mr. Oglel/yorpe, accompanied by fr/[ram Bull, lhortly after lus arrival, vifited Georgia; and after furveying the country, marked the (pot on which Savannah n'ow ftands, as the fitteft to begin their fettlement. Here they accord ingly began and built a fmail fort; a number of fmall huts for the1r defence and accommodation. Such of the fettlers as were able to bear arms were embodied, and well appointed with officers, arms, and ammunition. A treaty of friendthip was concluded be tween the fettlers and their neighbours the C reels [no/zany, and every thing wore the afpefi of peace and future profperity. But the fundamental regulations eflablifhed by the Truflees of Georgza, were ill adapted to the circumflances and fituation of the poor fettlers.
