The biography of the great theologian Adam Clarke. Clarke was a prolific writer of theology and the author of the definitive Commentary on the Old and New Testaments of the Holy Bible, inarguably the most comprehensive study of the Scriptures ever produced. Written by Samuel Dunn, a contemporary of Adam Clarke and his protégé, this biography explores Clarke's early life, conversion, education, adulthood as a theologian and his death. Great study of a great man of God.

Excerpt from The Life of Adam Clarke, Author of a Commentary on the Old and New From 1822 to his death, we regularly corresponded and I have been fortunate to come into the possession of a large number of his valuable letters, written during the first ten years of his itinerancy, unknown to any of his former biographers. These letters strikingly bring out his religious and ministerial character, and are given in the following pages. Desirous that he should be his own delineator, I have introduced no extraneous matter, nor spoken, but when it appeared necessary and have extracted largely from his instructive and copious correspondence. As the short Life prefixed to the Christian Theology, selected from his published and unpublished Works, met with Mrs. Clarke's unqualified approbation, I may hope that this unpretending volume will be perused by many with interest and profit, and reflect no dishonour on the distinguished man who, for so many years, the highest place in my esteem and affection.
