Excerpt from The Journal of the Alabama Academy of Science, Vol. 19: December, 1947 The division of the coal into particles pass ing 250 microns increased the rapidity with which time of storage reduced swelling power. This change was to be expected because of the, greatest surface exposed to oxidation. Coal 9' showed the greatest reduction in swelling. The mmimum reduction of swelling power that occurred from fresh coal, for any case, was two units. The Executive Committee met at the Montgomery Coun try Club Thursday evening, April 1; whereas, the general sessions and meet ings of the several sections on Friday and Saturday were held on the Hunting don College campus. The annual banquet held at the Montgomery Country Club on Friday evening was featured by the presidential address given by Dr. Joseph F. Volker, Dean of the University of Alabama School of Dentistry. The Alabama Junior Academy of Science held its annual meeting on the Huntingdon College campus at the same time as the Senior Academy meetings, that is, April 2-3.
