A survey of the current empirical literature on the potential impact of economic monetery union (EMU) on the Cohesion economies. The Cohesion economies being the economies of the countries whose gross national product is below 90% of the Community average and follow an economic convergence programme and are therefore eligible for assistance from the Cohesion Fund. This book concerns EU Cohesion Policy and the economic convergence of underdeveloped regions in Italy and Spain from the first programming period to the present: it investigates the political and institutional factors that determine the success or failure of implementing EU Cohesion Policy at national and sub-national level, as well as their impact on economic growth.
