This book is for Adult Readers. It's a Science Fiction Thriller. It's a story about cloning. The main character is Mr. Sandman and he has a propensity for being very evil. He was cloned from an old gunfighter, and he seems to continue that trait. There's one thing he doesn't understand-his terrible and fantastic night-terrors. Raised by the "military", and a bad childhood, he soon learns well in defending himself; and has the eyes of an eagle when shooting guns. After his 18th birthday, they let him go on his own. He strives to keep himself alive. One day, he meets a young lady, and for the first time in his life, he feels love, and feels love back. One night, he seeks out a man to find what he's all about. Little does he know-this man is going to change his life. Mr. Sandman becomes a nonhuman. He has been changed into someone who is superior to our race, and a new species. As much as we wish, we dare not tell you any more, or it shall ruin this book for you. Could something like this really happen? Or could it be happening now?

Research powers innovation and technoscientific advance, but it is due for a rethink, one consistent with its deeply holistic nature, requiring deeply human nurturing. Research is a deeply human endeavor that must be nurtured to achieve its full potential. As with tending a garden, care must be taken to organize, plant, feed, and weed—and the manner in which this nurturing is done must be consistent with the nature of what is being nurtured. In The Genesis of Technoscientific Revolutions, Venkatesh Narayanamurti and Jeffrey Tsao propose a new and holistic system, a rethinking of the nature and nurturing of research. They share lessons from their vast research experience in the physical sciences and engineering, as well as from perspectives drawn from the history and philosophy of science and technology, research policy and management, and the evolutionary biological, complexity, physical, and economic sciences. Narayanamurti and Tsao argue that research is a recursive, reciprocal process at many levels: between science and technology; between questions and answer finding; and between the consolidation and challenging of conventional wisdom. These fundamental aspects of the nature of research should be reflected in how it is nurtured. To that end, Narayanamurti and Tsao propose aligning organization, funding, and governance with research; embracing a culture of holistic technoscientific exploration; and instructing people with care and accountability.

"Deep in the Utah desert lies the EDN project, a man-made ecosystem built at government direction and inhabited by an intricate array of bizarre, artificially designed lifeforms unlike anything that has ever walked the earth. "New Eden" is supposed to be under total scientific control, from the bizarre, outlandish animal life created by the EDN scientists to the otherworldly and even toxic environment of the artificial forest itself. But when a team of researchers goes missing deep inside the deadly jungle, a small Marine unit must be sent in to rescue the trapped scientists - and confront the terrors mankind has released by following The Genesis Protocol." "As a Force Recon Marine with hard-won combat experience in numerous hot spots around the world, Gunnery Sergeant Donovan Hassler thought he and his team had seen it all. But none of the dangers they had faced prepared them for what he and his comrades in arms find when they venture into the unique, foreboding region that is New Eden to rescue the lovely Dr. Elizabeth Christopher and her team of scientists. To survive, Hassler and his squad must come face to face with the nightmarish results of ungodly science run amok."--BOOK JACKET.

This volume offers an updated analysis of the methodology of reading and reading research since 1995, when the landmark book Verbal Protocols of Reading: The Nature of Constructively Responsive Reading by Michael Pressley and Peter Afflerbach was published. It offers a thorough cross-analysis of the conscious processes experienced during reading, the structure of reading comprehension, and its application to more current initiatives such as Common Core State Standards and Response to Intervention. It also provides a detailed analysis of Constructively Responsive Reading through relevant online self-report studies in reading and reading comprehension behavior. It is a fresh and comprehensive volume that speaks not only to reading researchers, but to literacy teachers at all levels.

What are the global implications of the looming shortage of Internet addresses and the slow deployment of the new IPv6 protocol designed to solve this problem? The Internet has reached a critical point. The world is running out of Internet addresses. There is a finite supply of approximately 4.3 billion Internet Protocol (IP) addresses—the unique binary numbers required for every exchange of information over the Internet—within the Internet's prevailing technical architecture (IPv4). In the 1990s the Internet standards community selected a new protocol (IPv6) that would expand the number of Internet addresses exponentially—to 340 undecillion addresses. Despite a decade of predictions about imminent global conversion, IPv6 adoption has barely begun. Protocol Politics examines what's at stake politically, economically, and technically in the selection and adoption of a new Internet protocol. Laura DeNardis's key insight is that protocols are political. IPv6 intersects with provocative topics including Internet civil liberties, US military objectives, globalization, institutional power struggles, and the promise of global democratic freedoms. DeNardis offers recommendations for Internet standards governance, based not only on technical concerns but on principles of openness and transparency, and examines the global implications of looming Internet address scarcity versus the slow deployment of the new protocol designed to solve this problem.
