Karma in the Life After is about young a street hustler who died but he didn’t know that he was dead. He was transformed into a fly in the afterlife. He suffered the pain of dying as a fly. He also was seeing old friends whom had died years before him. They were living a miserable life in the afterlife. He was able to see his friends dying over and over. They were getting killed in the shape of animals and insects. Somehow, he was able to see them dying as humans. If they were not dying, they were going through a lot of pain. They did so much wrong on earth that they never got a chance to meet the creator. The young hustler was able to see the mysteries and answers to questions he always had in real life. He was living as a fly in the afterlife and was attracted to the things real flies were attracted to. He often prayed and hope it was all a dream. He no longer knew the time of day or the day of the week. Everyday seemed to be the same. When he met his guardian in the new life he didn’t know if he was there to help him or make fun of him. Then he realized he only died when his guardian disappeared. He was able to see the things that others could’ve own if they lived an honest life. During this afterlife he realized that he didn’t want to die. He now realized that the life he lived wasn’t a good one. He did not want to live as an insect that was being killed every ten minutes. He didn’t want to eat dog poop forever and he was no longer wanted to see his friends die over and over. Everything was becoming too painful to watch.

THE THING IS ... Years ago, on sleepless nights, I arose and began to write about meaningful events of my life. I am now 94 years of age but began writing when I was 83. “The thing is” ... all of us can learn from stories of others and I am sharing mine with my great-grandchildren or anyone else willing to read this book. Mother used to say: “Ellis” (my middle name used when I was a kid), “Ellis, it will be a miracle if you live to grow up.” Daddy used to say, “Son, I don’t know why you have to learn everything the hard way?” My stories prove the accuracy of their early musings. The thing is ... maybe my great grandchildren can learn a thing or two from the remembrances of my rambunctious childhood, long and loving marriage, and a work life inspired by Jesus Christ. The thing is ... good things can come from the experiences of life. The Bible tells us: “All things work for good for those who trust and love the Lord.” So here follows a story or two, including “good things” I learned or experienced as I trusted the Lord and lived my long and blessed life. Written in the shadow of the Yugoslav wars, yet never eclipsed by them, Mama Leone is a delightful cycle of interconnected stories by one of Central Europe’s most dazzling contemporary storytellers. Miljenko Jergovic leads us from a bittersweet world of precocious childhood wonder and hilarious invention, where the seduction of a well-told lie is worth more than a thousand prosaic truths, out into fractured worlds bleary-eyed from the unmagnificence of growing up. Yet for every familial betrayal and diminished expectation, every love and home(land) irretrievably lost, every terror and worst fear realized, Jergovic’s characters never surrender the promise of redemption being but a lone kiss or winning bingo card away. As readers we wander the book’s rhapsodic literary rooms, and as a myriad of unforgettable human voices call out to us, startled, across oceans and continents, we recognize them as our own.

Follow scientist Heather L. Montgomery into science labs, forests, hospitals, and landfills, as she asks: Who uses poo? Poop is disgusting, but it's also packed with potential. One scientist spent months training a dog to track dung to better understand elephant birthing patterns. Another discovered that mastodon poop years ago is the reason we enjoy pumpkin pie today. And every week, some folks deliver their own poop to medical facilities, where it is swirled, separated, and shipped off to a hospital to be transplanted into another human. There's even a train full of human poop sludge that's stuck without a home in Alabama! This irreverent and engaging narrative nonfiction book shows that poop isn't just waste-and that dealing with it responsibly is our duty.
