"For him, surrendering was like burning in a fire, every flame a reminder of why he was there, every scream echoing his past. What he did was like drowning in water: close your eyes, and it would all be over. Cool and calm, it promised release from suffering." In New York City, a Mexican immigrant arrives with a dark purpose but finds unexpected solace with an ambitious brother and sister. As love blossoms, their happiness seems too perfect to last. When his past and intentions come to light, their world shatters. Confronted by the consequences of his actions, he makes a heart-wrenching decision that alters the lives of those he loves. "The End of an Avenger" is a haunting tale of love, betrayal, and the devastating choices made when past collides with present.

This is the second volume of the widely acclaimed Art of the Cut book published in 2017. This follow-up text expands on its predecessor with wisdom from more than 360 interviews with the world’s best editors (including nearly every Oscar winner from the last 30 years). Because editing is a highly subjective art form, and one that is critical to the success of motion picture storytelling, it requires side-by-side comparisons of the many techniques and solutions used by a wide range of editors from around the world. That is why this book compares and contrasts methodologies from a wide array of diverse voices and organizes that information so that it is easily digested and understood. There is no one way to approach editorial problems, so this book allows readers to see multiple solutions from multiple editors. The interviews contained within are carefully curated into topics that are most important to film editors and those who aspire to become film editors. The questions asked, and the organization of the book, are not merely an academic or theoretical view of the art of editing but rather the practical advice and methodologies of actual working film and TV editors, bringing benefits to both students and professional readers. The book is supplemented by a collection of downloadable online exclusive chapters, which cover additional topics ranging from Choosing the Project to VFX. In addition to the supplementary chapters, access to the full-color, full-resolution images printed in the book—and other exclusive images—is included.

The Hand of Justice Series started out as one book, The Eye of Zoar released in e-book format and paperback through Author House in July 2012 as A Rising Darkness. The original story was lost in a move and the re-writing of it resulted in plot changes that expanded the storyline especially when the ending changed and I lost my main character. Such are the vagaries of fictional worlds I suppose. The norm for characters in this series is bi-sexuality. The main character is, to use the language of his world slye he beds only with men. Those readers looking for salacious scenes will probably be disappointed; the sexual nature of the men and women of Zetaria is a fact of life and even in the use of prostitutes there is respect.

In Avengers Infinity Saga and Philosophy, philosophers explore the momentous issues and the fascinating puzzles raised by Marvel’s compelling series of movies: ● Is the Thanos snap truly an answer to overpopulation and famine, or is it simply indefensible mass murder on a cosmic scale? ● Are the Avengers who try to stop Thanos dishing out justice or merely fighting a man who is himself just? ● Captain America or Tony Stark—which leader holds the key to a civilized society? ● Dr. Strange claims to sees 14,000,605 possible futures, in one of which Thanos is defeated. What does this tell us about the true nature of reality? ● Sometimes your best just isn’t enough. How can we cope with inevitability? ● How can the Soul Stone and the Binding of Isaac by Abraham help us understand the Infinity War saga? ● Is Thanos a utilitarian? And if so, is his utilitarian calculus logically sound? ● Would it be possible for a group like the Avengers to amass enormous power to fight for humankind, without themselves becoming a corrupt ruling class? ● Can the past Nebula shooting the future Nebula cause her to cease to exist? Can you change the future by communicating with yourself or your family in the past? ● Can Thanos be seen as the epitome of non-self-serving behavior, or is Thanos masking his own egoism with the lie that his altruistic mission is to bring the universe into balance? ● Does Thanos show us the danger of living by an absolute moral compass, which allows us to see only what we believe to be “the right” with no variations or nuances?

Comic book audience expectations have fluctuated dramatically through the years, and comic book creators have had to adapt to shifting reader concerns. One of Marvel Comic's most popular franchises for five decades, the Avengers have always been reflective of their times, having adapted to an evolving readership to remain relevant. This collection of fresh essays by popular culture scholars examines Avengers story lines such as the Korvac Saga, Civil War, and Secret Invasion, and scrutinizes key characters including the Black Panther and Hank Pym. Essays explore how real-world events such as the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Vietnam War, the end of the Cold War, and 9/11 influenced popular entertainment in America.

Jesus lives in our personal stories. This is the clear message from the young adult Hispanic Catholic authors in this exciting volume. They candidly share their joys and hopes, griefs and anxieties as they navigate life in the U.S. as Hispanics and as Christian disciples. Numerous young Latinas and Latinos are and want to remain Catholic. Many, however, feel abandoned by the institution and the faith communities that at one point introduced them—and their families—to the living Christ and his Gospel message. If you share in some way that sentiment, the stories in this volume are a reminder that you are not alone. Welcome to a communion of young women and men who find grace in sharing and listening to their particular stories of faith. Pastoral leaders reading this book are invited to listen attentively to young adult Latina and Latino Catholics as they forge fresh ways of being Christian in the United States. “It is so heartening to hear the voices of young Latino Catholics and their stories. Hosffman Ospino and Tim Matovino have assembled an inspiring collection of witnesses who lend hope for the future of our faith—it will be in good hands! All of us can hear the great Story anew through each of these fresh stories.” —Thomas Groome, professor of theology and religious education, Boston College “Young Latino Catholics! These fourteen heartwarming stories of Latino/a young adults call all of us would-be disciples to a life of zealous faith in the Spirit of Christ. Reading this book will stir hearts and ignite energies. The Reign of God Lives!!” —Nancy Pineda-Madrid, T. Marie Chilton Chair of Catholic Theology, Loyola Marymount University
