John Sherwin settled in Ispwich, Massachusetts, as a single man, probably in 1666. He married twice and was the father of thirteen children. He died at Ipswich in 1726. His descendant in the seventh generation, Sidney Orville Sherwin, was born in Buckland, Massachusetts, in 1848. He married Mary Adelaide Shedd, daughter of Charles and Eliza Rowell Shedd, at Denmark, Iowa, in 1871. They had nine children, 1872-1895. The family lived in Minnesota, migrated to South Dakota in 1880, and to Stockton, Missouri, in 1894. Mary Adelaide Sherwin died at Stockton in 1916. Sidney Sherwin lived with a son for awhile in Elk City, Oklahoma. He moved to a daughter's home in Iola, Kansas, in 1918. He died at Iola in 1923. Descendants lived in Missouri, Kansas, Texas, California, North Carolina, and elsewhere.

The immigrant ancestor of this family was Johann Friederich Eyerer (Frederick Oyer), born probably in Germany 17 April 1747. He died in Oriskany Battlefield, Herkimer Co., N.Y. in 1777. He married Elisabetha in Germany. She was born in Wuerttemberg, Germany ca. 1740. This was her second marriage. She died in Schuyler Twp., Herkimer Co., after 1810. Frederick Oyer immigrated to America with his wife Elisabetha and her son John Finster in 1764. Descendants live in the state of New York and elsewhere.

Henry Hays (1667-1746), the immigrant ancestor of the Hayes family, was baptized in Epwell, Oxfordshire, England. He died in 1746 in East Marlborough, Chester Co., Pennsylvania. Includes other emigrant ancestors from England to Virginia, Pennsylvania etc. in the 1600s. Descendants live in Virginia, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and elsewhere.
