"This is an account of an old Virginia family, the descendants of Derby Dunaway (died 1729) of Lancaster County in the Northern Neck of Virginia, a family which has produced eminent clergymen, scholars and industrialists. ... Derby Dunaway first appears with a wife Mary in St. Mary's County, Maryland, across the Potomac River opposite Northumberland County. On 9 April 1674 ... [he] proved his right to 50 acres of land for his service performed in this province ... [after 1680] he disappears from the Maryland records, apparently, he moved to Lancasster County, Virginia." --P. 1. Descendants lived in Virginia, West Virginia and elsewhere.

Lists about 2500 books found in major libraries throughout the U. S. containing genealogies of families from Virginia and West Virginia. The books listed deal with families of Virginia origins but often follow their descendants far and wide across the continent. Each book is listed under the surname of the primary Virginia family covered in it. Many of the titles listed deal with several families, not all of which may have Virginia roots. Citations to all these allied families are listed in a cross-reference table, regardless of the geographic focus of the family, making this bibliography of use to researchers with interests outside Virginia also.

This memoir is a collection of anecdotes about events and people I have encountered at various stages of my life as a physician. The stories are true to the best of my recollection. Some are amusing, occasionally hilarious and sometimes sad. My patients contributed immensely to the quality of my life, as I tried to improve theirs. I have never regretted my decision to become a doctor, an allergist and a friend to the people I was privileged to care for and I would not take back a day from my life in medicine.
