Coastal Environmental Profile of Sulu Sea is providing baseline information from various fields of marine science particularly marine flora and fauna within the islands and coastal areas of the Sulu Sea. This book can be used as a reference to support the development and management of Tun Mustapha Park. The authors of each chapter of this book have presented significant insights into the status of marine bio-resources and threats to marine resources. This book is also especially targeted to support the scientific database of Coral Triangle Imitative (CTI) and contribute to achieving the target stipulated in Malaysia’s National Plan of Action for CTI.

This new edition of Ocean has been updated with fresh graphics, images, and type styling throughout, and includes new coverage of major events such as Hurricane Sandy and the Japan tsunami. DK's Ocean is a highly illustrated encyclopedia of the marine environment. It not only covers marine life and physical oceanography, from the geology of the seafloor to the chemistry of seawater, but also includes an atlas of the world's oceans and seas compiled using satellite data. Visual catalogs throughout the book contain profiles of living organisms and key locations. With comprehensively updated text, artwork, and images, the second edition of DK's exhaustive guide to the underwater world is the most definitive visual guide to the world's oceans on the market.

Industrial desalination of sea and brackish water is becoming an essential part in providing sustainable sources of fresh water for a larger number of communities around the world. Desalination is a main source of fresh water in the Gulf countries, a number of the Caribbean and Mediterranean Islands, and several municipalities in a large number of countries. As the industry expands there is a pressing need to have a clear and well-written textbook that focuses on desalination fundamentals and other industrial aspects. This book focuses on the processes widely used in industry, which include multistage flash desalination and reverse osmosis. Also, other desalination processes with attractive features and high potential are featured. It includes a large number of solved examples, which are explained in simple and careful matter that allow the reader to follow and understand the development. The data used in the development of the examples and case studies are extracted from existing desalination plants. This title also includes comparisons of model predictions against results reported in literature as well as available experimental and industrial data. Several industries include similar unit operation processes, i.e., evaporators, condensers, flashing units, membrane separation, and chemical treatment. Examples of such industries include wastewater treatment, food, petroleum, petrochemical, power generation, and pulp and paper. Process fundamentals and design procedures of such unit processes follow the same procedures given in this textbook.

Oceans account for 50% of the anthropogenic CO2 released into the atmosphere. During the past 15 years an international programme, the Joint Global Ocean Flux Study (JGOFS), has been studying the ocean carbon cycle to quantify and model the biological and physical processes whereby CO2 is pumped from the ocean's surface to the depths of the ocean, where it can remain for hundreds of years. This project is one of the largest multi-disciplinary studies of the oceans ever carried out and this book synthesises the results. It covers all aspects of the topic ranging from air-sea exchange with CO2, the role of physical mixing, the uptake of CO2 by marine algae, the fluxes of carbon and nitrogen through the marine food chain to the subsequent export of carbon to the depths of the ocean. Special emphasis is laid on predicting future climatic change.
