The list describes the organisation of the service and the careers of its members. Part 1 covers Home Departments, Part 2 deals with British Missions overseas, and Part 3 consists of chronological lists of Secretaries of State, Ministers of State, Permanent Under-Secretaries and Ambassadors, High Commissioners, Permanent Representatives to international organisations and Governors and Commanders-in-Chief of Overseas Territories. The final part is an alphabetical listing with biographical notes of established members of the Diplomatic Service.
