Thi invitation has been responded to generously, in the past, and much of the credi for whatever accuracy and completeness the book may possess is due to hun dreds of mining men and others, in all parts of the globe, who have kindly giver suggestions, corrected errors and furnished data regarding various copper prop erties. The responsible heads of the various departments of the larger copper produca's have responded more fully and in larger numbers than ever before, and a large part of the information contained in the work may be considered, therefore, of a semi-oficial nature. It has taken time to convince the busy men of afiairs, at the head of the great copper enterprises of the world, that the Copper Handbook is meant for a strictly legitimate expositor of the industry, but this happy result seems to have been accomplished, at last. Whatever the errors of the book, they are not errors of intent, and there is ample room in the world for work that is done honestly, and with a fair degree of intelligence. It is not to be wondered at that time has been required to establish confidence in the work, among the men who mine and smelt the copper, for it is true, un fortunately, that the ease with which type may be put to paper has bred, in every country, parasites to the mining and financial press, and in addition to the honest and worthy periodicals and annuals in these fields, there are publications.
