Excerpt from The Copper Handbook, Vol. 4: A Manual of the Copper Industry of the World; For the Year 1903 The work of preparing the present edition has been greatly facilitated by the hearty co-operation of a great number of individuals, firms, Corpora tions, societies and governments. Statistics have been furnished freely by a great majority of the officials of the various governments of whom requests were made. It is hoped that for next year even the 'l\rrkish govern ment may be induced to reply to requests for information, though as yet the Imperial Minister of Forests and Mines of the Ottoman Empire has not been brought to reply to any of the numerous letters written him during the past four years. The mining companies have responded more freely and fully to requests for information for the present volume than in any preceding year, and especial thanks are due a large number of engineers, in all parts of the world, for their kindly criticisms, advice and voluntary submission of facts of interest. Excerpt from The Copper Handbook, Vol. 6: A Manual of the Copper Industry of the World As in previous editions, the author wishes to disclaim all pretensions to in fallibility, and will welcome criticisms and corrections from any source. Thi invitation has been responded to generously, in the past, and much of the credi for whatever accuracy and completeness the book may possess is due to hun dreds of mining men and others, in all parts of the globe, who have kindly giver suggestions, corrected errors and furnished data regarding various copper prop erties. The responsible heads of the various departments of the larger copper produca's have responded more fully and in larger numbers than ever before, and a large part of the information contained in the work may be considered, therefore, of a semi-oficial nature. It has taken time to convince the busy men of afiairs, at the head of the great copper enterprises of the world, that the Copper Handbook is meant for a strictly legitimate expositor of the industry, but this happy result seems to have been accomplished, at last. Whatever the errors of the book, they are not errors of intent, and there is ample room in the world for work that is done honestly, and with a fair degree of intelligence. It is not to be wondered at that time has been required to establish confidence in the work, among the men who mine and smelt the copper, for it is true, un fortunately, that the ease with which type may be put to paper has bred, in every country, parasites to the mining and financial press, and in addition to the honest and worthy periodicals and annuals in these fields, there are publications. Ostensibly designed along the same lines, that actually are conducted mainly for blackmailing purposes. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
