Composed in blank-verse, it is a dramatic monologue of nearly 10,000 lines, divided into nine parts, or “Nights.” Young’s fame in Europe was further developed by his prose masterpiece, ‘Conjectures on Original Composition’, addressed to his friend, the novelist Samuel Richardson.
