Sing! has grown from Keith and Kristyn Getty’s passion for congregational singing; it’s been formed by their traveling and playing and listening and discussing and learning and teaching all over the world. And in writing it, they have five key aims: • to discover why we sing and the overwhelming joy and holy privilege that comes with singing • to consider how singing impacts our hearts and minds and all of our lives • to cultivate a culture of family singing in our daily home life • to equip our churches for wholeheartedly singing to the Lord and one another as an expression of unity • to inspire us to see congregational singing as a radical witness to the world They have also added a few “bonus tracks” at the end with some more practical suggestions for different groups who are more deeply involved with church singing. God intends for this compelling vision of His people singing—a people joyfully joining together in song with brothers and sisters around the world and around his heavenly throne—to include you. He wants you,he wants us, to sing.

Now in a new edition! Just as the ministry of preaching requires preparation of the heart and mind of the minister, so to do choir members need to prepare their hearts and voices to be attuned to the work of the Holy Spirit through them. Leading music minister Ken Osbeck provides devotionals that adapt easily for use as preparation of heart and soul in rehearsals or just before the choir performance. Each "warm up" includes a scripture reading, an applied devotional reading, a pertinent idea for group discussion and engagement, a suggestion for group singing, a meditative prayer, and a final take-away thought.

Every choir director struggles with the desire to improve the music reading ability of their choir, yet time to teach music theory in rehearsal is limited. "Singing Between the Lines" was created to help choir directors teach music theory in as little as 15 minutes a week. * Each session is designed for 15-minute segments or can be combined for 30-minute sessions. * Thirty progressive lessons, presented in order, build upon previous concepts. * Familiar hymn tunes are used as teaching examples. * Reproducible participant pages. * The session pages include quick teaching tips, suggestions for ear training, and ways to incorporate the concepts into rehearsals. The concepts presented in "Singing Between the Lines" apply to all music. Your rehearsals will become more productive, ensemble members will be more confident, and the final product will be better when choir members understand what the printed page means.

This book includes thirty-three provocative essays on corporate worship, hymnody and psalmody, issues, and composers and composition. It explores scripture teaching on the role of music in the church. This volume exists because it contains ideas that every worshiper (pastor and layperson) and Christian musician (performer and academic) may benefit from reading, since it is entirely possible to live in the subculture of the evangelical church without encountering some of them. - Publisher.

This collection aims to provide a comprehensive survey of a highly significant part of the Christian Year: Ash Wednesday and Lent, Passiontide, Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter. Its contents span all musical periods of what is a marvellously rich area of church music and it contains much that is not widely available elsewhere under one cover. Ash Wednesday to Easter for Choirs includes a number of less familiar works together with new or recent arrangements of well-known tunes, such as Philip Ledger's 'This joyful Eastertide', Simon Lindley's 'Now the green blade riseth', and Bob Chilcott's setting of 'Were you there?'. Some of the anthems, for example Richard Shephard's 'Sing, my tongue' and Grayston Ives' 'Ride on', have been newly commissioned specifically for this collection, thus filling certain gaps. Wherever possible new practical performing editions of 16th-century repertoire have been prepared, reflecting current scholarship and including an English singing translation and, where, the original had none, a dynamic scheme. Such dynamics are the editors' suggestions only and may be freely ignored or adapted. Note values have in some instances been halved. Unaccompanied items include keyboard reductions for rehearsal.
