I was driving down a nearly deserted road. It was a shortcut I often took to get home from town. I’m not sure it was any shorter, but it was definitely quieter. A lot fewer cars came this way. Perhaps it was because most of the houses weren’t out this direction. Maybe it was even because of the cemetery. I actually liked going by the cemetery. This was one of those older ones that had character, not just a bunch of the same plaques over and over. Some of these graves had statues of angels watching over them. Some had boxes above ground. There were even two mausoleums, on in the corner near a front gate, and one way back in the far corner. I was glancing at the graveyard when it happened. I’m not sure if I hit a slick bit of mud, some oil on the road, or what. It might have been that there was just way too much rain for my tires to get a good grip. Anyway, I felt the steering wheel being wrenched from my hands. Find out what happens when Peter’s car ends up in the ditch beside the cemetery. Ages 9 and up. “I’m sorry if I’m such a pain,” Mr. Sidney said as I adjusted his pillows with a sigh. “Oh! It’s not you, I promise,” Janet exclaimed. “I just have some things on my mind.” “They don’t seem to be happy things,” Mr. Sidney noted with a wheeze. “Is it all this taking care of dying folks that has you upset? Or is it something else? I have a hard time talking, but I can be a great listener if you want to talk about it?” Janet smiled. Mr. Sidney had always been one of the kindest men she cared for in the old age home where she worked. It was hard to believe that this weathered whisper of a man used to be a great muscled boxer in his day. He often spoke of how he was going to get back all those muscles when he got to heaven. He believed your spirit would look like your body did when you were in your prime! “You wouldn’t believe me if I told you,” Janet exclaimed with a sigh. Find out what Janet’s problem is, and how Mr. Sidney tries to help in this creepy ghost story. Ages 9 and up. Educational Versions have exercises designed to meet Common Core standards. God's Strategy in Human History

God's Strategy in Human History
Author: Paul Marston

"Forster and Marston have delivered a stellar book that attempts to present an exegetical and Scriptural framework for the content presented in the book. Instead of beginning from a set of deductive theological assumptions and then attempting to support that system from Scripture, Forster and Marston examine Scripture and attempt to build their case directly from the text. The authors unabashedly admit that their views are very similar to those of Arminian and Weslyan traditions, but they state in the beginning of the book that they do not want to be labeled with these names, but want to construct a theology that is in line with the teachings of the first 300 years of Christianity. Anyone who reads their appendix will come to understand that the teachings presented in this book were the orthodox consensus of the early Church for the first 300 years, and that it was Augustine who introduced serious deviations into the mainstream orthodox Christianity of his time. Forster and Marston begin by describing the battle that is being waged between God and the spiritual forces that oppose Him. They examine the book of Job and see how this relates to the overall struggle. Then the authors examine the 9th chapter of Romans to see if this book is dealing with election and individual destinies, or God's actions within human history. The authors do an excellent job of arguing for their opinion that this chapter is speaking about God's involvement in human history and it deals with God's choosing of one nation or individual over another nation or individual to accomplish His purpose. Other sections of interest in this book are the sections on foreknowledge and predestination and the chapters on faith and works. The section on faith and works was particularly interesting because it relies on much of the teaching of the new perspective which has shed much light on how a 1st century Palestinian Jew would have approached Scriptural issues. The research, argumenation, and exegesis in this book are solid so every chapter is excellent, but the ones mentioned above were two of my favorites."--Amazon.com.

The first novel in John Domini's Naples trilogy, Earthquake I.D. appeared in spring '07. Set in a famously troubled and romantic Southern Italian seaport, following the next earthquake, the story combines family and social crises with an element of fantasy and pervasive humor. The novel won wide critical praise and was nominated for a Pulitzer and other prizes. Richard Ford, an earlier Pulitzer winner, called it "a wonderful novel of an old-fashioned sort...a rich feast." Steve Erickson, author of Zeroville, called Domini "a writer of the world, with a deft talent for negotiating the currents of our age."In April 2009, an Italian translation appeared, under the title Terremoto Napoletano. Again reviews have been strong.
