In teaching an introduction to transport or systems dynamics modeling at the undergraduate level, it is possible to lose pedagogical traction in a sea of abstract mathematics. What the mathematical modeling of time-dependent system behavior offers is a venue in which students can be taught that physical analogies exist between what they likely perceive as distinct areas of study in the physical sciences. We introduce a storyline whose characters are superheroes that store and dissipate energy in dynamic systems. Introducing students to the overarching conservation laws helps develop the analogy that ties the different disciplines together under a common umbrella of system energy. In this book, we use the superhero cast to present the effort-flow analogy and its relationship to the conservation principles of mass, momentum, energy, and electrical charge. We use a superhero movie script common to mechanical, electrical, fluid, and thermal engineering systems to illustrate how to apply the analogy to arrive at governing differential equations describing the systems' behavior in time. Ultimately, we show how only two types of differential equation, and therefore, two types of system response are possible. This novel approach of storytelling and a movie script is used to help make the mathematics of lumped system modeling more approachable for students. Most leadership in today’s churches comes from “solo practitioners”--individuals who bear the burden of providing all the direction the ministry they direct requires. Inevitably, this results not only in burned-out leaders, but underutilized lay people who merely attend and observe rather than becoming actively engaged in ministry, growing in discipleship, and freeing professional staff to focus on pastoral priorities. In The Power of Team Leadership, noted researcher George Barna demonstrates the incredible difference lay-team leadership can make in a church’s ministry. Based on Barna’s latest national studies, the book sets forth clearly what churches need to know in order to recruit, train, and deploy lay leadership teams for maximum effectiveness in the Kingdom of God.

The USS George Washington, while undergoing its preflight check down in orbit over Earth for its scheduled mission to Titan, is struck by a strange energy vortex. It causes the ship to crash-land in the inner sea off the coast of Denmark. All computers and communication are dead, and two of the crew members must surface to get aide. Instead of rescuers, they find Waffen SS soldiers who take them prisoner. Such an occurrence, long speculated by physicists, has never happened before, or so it was believed. Time travel was just fanciful theory unlikely to leave the realm of flashy science fiction novels, or so they thought. The baffled crew members, trying to make sense of it all, miraculously escape to England, worrying all along about incidental contact and the effect it would have. They run to the one person who has the power, and they believe, the will to help them: Winston Churchill. Churchill, however, is not who they think he is, and they are not where they think they are or when. They must save themselves with the assistance of Churchill and his crippled friend and neighbor Franklin Roosevelt, who have their own agenda and ax to grind here on their Earth. Here there is no landmass above the Yucatan, and here the British are cowards and the French brave. They must go to the one place on this Earth that is truly hell to be saved. In that place, they will redeem their integrity by throwing off the shackles they attached to themselves in the dishonorable world they come from. Their destinationAuschwitz.
