It was just supposed to be a job—a well-paying job, but just a job. And it is… until it isn’t and suddenly Jenna’s facing two blue aliens who want her to leave Earth behind… forever. Da fuq was in that wine? Jenna is working her butt off at three different jobs in order to provide for her younger siblings. And tonight’s high-profile catering gig (hazard pay bay-bee!) at Drokten Main is going to give her not only dollahz, but also the perfect opportunity to check out the shirtless blue alien heroes who saved Earth from near destruction. Whoo Hoo! At the party, she overhears a crazy plot to destroy the Drokten and kick them off the planet. Holy crap! And the next thing she knows she’s standing in front of the Commander of the entire Drokten fleet, as well as the Drokten Ambassador, trying to warn them both of the eminent threat to their safety. And just like that they want her on their battleship and in their bed. Both of them. Together. W…what? Uh…no? Yes? NO. No matter how hot they are, the answer is no. Right? Being an alien booty call—no matter how hot the males are—isn’t on Jenna’s to do list. Plus, she can’t leave her siblings behind! But darn it, these guys should be in sales, because they’re so freaking persuasive. And every time they hold her in their possessive embrace, pressed between their hard bodies…well, her heart goes pitter-patter and her body lights on fire. How is a girl supposed to say no? But, on the other hand, how can she say yes when the lives of her brother and sister are at stake?

Do you think UFOs and ETs only make their presence known to that class of beer swilling, pick-up truck driving people of questionable intelligence and veracity that mainly reside below the Mason-Dixon Line? A highly educated engineer, who believed only in what he could hold, measure and quantify, thought just that until one fateful morning when he decided to aide a few strangers who came knocking at his door. If you’ve been searching for a truly engaging science fiction story written for non-nerds, that foregoes the weird religions, strange, unpronounceable languages and endless lines of meaningless techno-babble, then hop aboard for a down to earth, but highly exciting, exceptionally humorous and fast moving adventure with The Aliens Reward. This is one story where the visitors from space are just as crazy as any humans, and aren’t portrayed as invincible, all-knowing demi-gods, grotesque monsters or beings with supernatural powers. And, you’ll discover that they don’t have all the answers, although they do have plenty of questions, and present some unique problems, along with incredible acts of heroism, loyalty and courage. Discover how one non-believing man’s decision changes not only his world, but the fate of our entire planet, forever…

Directed by Jonathan Glazer (Sexy Beast, Birth) and starring Scarlett Johansson, the 2013 film Under the Skin contains elements of science fiction and fantasy, horror, mystery, and thriller. Arguably the most compelling of Johansson's career, the movie follows a unique tale of one woman's journey to self-discovery. This is the first book to be written about the quiet masterpiece, revisiting the film scene-by-scene through all its cinematic elements. Extensive interviews detail the challenges the filmmakers faced--from hidden filming on the streets of Glasgow to defying a blizzard in the Scottish Highlands. Readers are invited to explore connections between the movie and its science fiction cousins and discover the reasons why Under the Skin deserves to find a wider audience.

“An incisive critical work” that looks at Octavia Butler’s writing, the movies of the Matrix and Alien series—and more—through a feminist lens (Femspec). Feminist thinkers and writers are increasingly recognizing science fiction’s potential to shatter patriarchal and heterosexual norms, while the creators of science fiction are bringing new depth and complexity to the genre by engaging with feminist thewories and politics. This book maps the intersection of feminism and science fiction through close readings of science fiction literature by Octavia E. Butler, Richard Calder, and Melissa Scott and the movies The Matrix and the Alien series. Patricia Melzer analyzes how these authors and films represent debates and concepts in three areas of feminist thought: identity and difference, feminist critiques of science and technology, and the relationship among gender identity, body, and desire, including the new gender politics of queer desires, transgender, and intersexed bodies and identities. She demonstrates that key political elements shape these debates, including global capitalism and exploitative class relations within a growing international system; the impact of computer, industrial, and medical technologies on women’s lives and reproductive rights; and posthuman embodiment as expressed through biotechnologies, the body/machine interface, and the commodification of desire. Melzer’s investigation makes it clear that feminist writings and readings of science fiction are part of a feminist critique of existing power relations—and that the alien constructions (cyborgs, clones, androids, aliens, and hybrids) that populate postmodern science fiction are as potentially empowering as they are threatening.

"This sparkling book romps over the range of science and anti-science." --Jared Diamond, author of Guns, Germs, and Steel Revised and Expanded Edition. In this age of supposed scientific enlightenment, many people still believe in mind reading, past-life regression theory, New Age hokum, and alien abduction. A no-holds-barred assault on popular superstitions and prejudices, with more than 80,000 copies in print, Why People Believe Weird Things debunks these nonsensical claims and explores the very human reasons people find otherworldly phenomena, conspiracy theories, and cults so appealing. In an entirely new chapter, "Why Smart People Believe in Weird Things," Michael Shermer takes on science luminaries like physicist Frank Tippler and others, who hide their spiritual beliefs behind the trappings of science. Shermer, science historian and true crusader, also reveals the more dangerous side of such illogical thinking, including Holocaust denial, the recovered-memory movement, the satanic ritual abuse scare, and other modern crazes. Why People Believe Strange Things is an eye-opening resource for the most gullible among us and those who want to protect them.
