At the center of the Santa Fe art scene for a half-century, Gustave Baumann (1881-1971) drew on the invigorating influences of other European and American artists, along with Native American potters and watercolor painters, to produce a wealth of woodblock prints depicting the southwestern landscape, its peoples, and their rituals. As his images grew more complex, he devised innovative printing techniques, creating luminous prints with warm, blended hues. Gustave Baumann's Southwest presents over fifty of the artist's woodblock prints and gouaches, with an essay by Joseph Traugott, curator of twentieth-century art at the Museum of Fine Arts, New Mexico. Traugott outlines Baumann's life story, dwelling on the decisive moments when the artist struck out on his own. After he turned away from his early commercial success as an advertising illustrator in Chicago, Baumann combined a modern palette and techniques both traditional and modern while depicting subjects that existed long before an industrial revolution transformed American life.

Divided into two parts, Robin Blaser consists of two essays by people who knew Blaser intimately, as a life–long friend, a mentor and intellectual influence. In part one, award–winning author Stan Persky offers a cohesive guide to reading Robin Blaser's poetry and the ways in which Blaser's work was "an attempted rescue or defense of poetry". In part two, Brian Fawcett discusses how Blaser inspired and guided him in his formative years as a writer at the newly–opened Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, BC. From the authors' recollections, we are given a glimpse into the personal and professional relationships that developed between Persky, Fawcett, Robin Blaser, Jack Spicer, and many of the other poets associated with the "San Francisco renaissance" and the New American Poetry. At once a memoir and a reader, Robin Blaser is also an illustrated account of the remarkable life of the poet, with dozens of previously unpublished photographs included. In 2007, Robin Blaser was awarded the Griffin Poetry Prize. Robin Blaser celebrates the poet, the academic, and the person. Blaser died in spring 2009.

Jacques Henri Lartigue's elegant black-and-white and color photography spans a century; this affordable volume celebrates the best of his joyful and stylish work. Jacques Henri Lartigue's carefree, joyful, and spontaneous spirit permeates his photography. And yet there are other, lesser-known aspects of his work that invite us to take a closer look. Whether capturing amusing scenes on film or sketching them on paper or canvas, the artist covered a vast range of themes. Lartigue took photographs throughout his career, almost as a matter of routine, which makes his work a vital record of his times. His style gradually evolved, influenced by artistic experiments and personal encounters. He left behind a rich and varied body of work. Albums of his private photographs provide a romanticized view of the photographer's personal life, revealing his doubts and attempts to understand his place in the world; they constitute an essential part of his body of work. Lartigue played with visual tricks, styles, and recurring themes--transportation, sports, shadow play, chic women--bridging different periods and lending consistency to his work. The selection of photographs reproduced here represents the best examples of his most popular themes.
