Virtually all non-native speakers have trouble with certain sounds of English, primarily because they do not have those sounds in their native language. The three major problem areas are: light-right-white-night; beet-bat-bet-bit; and bat-pat-fat-vat. WHAT IS IT? 16 Battleship-type, communicative pair activities for the 16 most common ESL textbook topics. Thus, you can have a pronunciation focus with whatever unit or topic you are covering. These COORDINATE WORDS (usually about 20) feature the most difficult sounds for ESL students to distinguish and pronounce, such as: light-right; ship-sheep; pat-fat, pool-pull, gin-chin. The ANSWER WORDS (usually about 22) are vocabulary from the ESL topic, for example, FOOD: appetizer, bland, brunch, buffet, crispy, dessert, leftovers, sweet tooth, vegetarian.
