Daily Prayer is the first daily prayer book in the Church of England's history. It contains a Daily Office - a collection of orders of service designed to be prayed at different points through the day. The services may be prayed individually, in groups, churches or in religious communities. Drawing on the daily Bible readings laid out in the Common Worship Lectionary, they allow Anglicans to link their personal devotions into the shared prayer life of the Church. As well as the more traditional services of Morning, Evening, and Night Prayer, Daily Prayer also offers Prayer During the Day, especially designed for those new to regular liturgical prayer. Each service contains the three key elements of praise, intercession and engagement with Scripture. Prayers are included for both Ordinary Time and the seasons of the Christian year. Paul's letter to the churches of Galatia was for many years a document of special interestand study for renowned New Testament scholar F. F. Bruce. This excellent volume in theNew International Greek Testament Commentary series contains Bruce's mature work onthat important early epistle. Through phrase-by-phrase exegesis of the Greek text, consistent awareness of the historicaland geographical context, and balanced dialogue with scores of other scholars, Brucesuccessfully bridges the hermeneutical gap and makes the text of Galatians come alive forboth scholars and students. Based on careful historical-critical-linguistic exegesis yet primarilytheological in character, this commentary places special emphasis throughout onPaul's insistence on justification before God by faith apart from works of the law, and onPaul's presentation of the Spirit as the principle of the new life in Christ.

Central to debates about Jesus is the issue of whether he uniquely embodies the divine. While this discussion continues unabated, both those who affirm and those who dismiss, Jesus' divinity regularly eclipse the reality that in many of the earliest strands of the Christian tradition when Jesus' divinity is proclaimed, Jesus is imaged as the female divine. Sally Douglas investigates these early texts, excavates the motivations for imaging Jesus as Woman Wisdom and the complex reasons that this began to be suppressed in the 2nd and 3rd centuries. The work concludes with an exploration of the powerful implications of engaging with the ancient proclamation of Jesus-Woman Wisdom in contemporary context.

This publication deals with a biblical theology of prayer based on the New Testament. It forms the second of a two-volume publication on a biblical theology of prayer, dealing with the concept of prayer in the Old and New Testament, respectively. This New Testament volume begins with an introduction on prayer and worship in early Jewish tradition, followed by eleven chapters dealing with New Testament corpora. It concludes with a final chapter synthesising the findings of the respective investigations of the Old and New Testament corpora to provide a summative theological perspective of the development of the concept of prayer through scripture. Prayer forms a major and continuous theme throughout the biblical text. Prayer was an integral part of the religious existence of God’s people in both the Old and New Testament. It underwent its greatest developments during, after and as a result of the Exile and was deepened and transformed in the New Testament. In both the Old and the New Testament, God is the sole ‘addressee’ of his people’s prayer. This conviction continued into the New Testament, but was broadened with Trinitarian elements of worship, adoration and intercession. A biblical theological investigation is chosen as methodology. Since all the biblical books form part of one canonical text, the assumption is that the various theologies about prayer being displayed in these books can be synthesised into a developing meta-theology about prayer. As the Old and New Testament form part of the canonical text, the results about prayer in the Old Testament can be brought into play with the results about prayer in the New Testament. This eventually leads toward an overarching biblical theology of prayer.
