Thailand is one of the world’s most popular travel destinations for many very good reasons: friendly people, warm climate, sandy beaches, clear sea, stunning landscape, fascinating culture, spicy food, colorful nightlife. The list goes on. Alone amongst Southeast Asian nations, Thailand escaped the yoke of colonialism. Ninety-five percent of the Thai people are Buddhist and have their own unique and usually easy-going attitude to life. Mai pen rai (never mind) is a favorite phrase. So is sanuk mai? (having fun?) Thailand is a great country to explore, from the mountains and hill tribes of the north, to the excitement of the capital of Bangkok, and the sun, sea, and sand of the south. With a portfolio of superb photographs, Thailand: A Travel Adventure gives the reader a taste of what to expect in this fabulous and ancient Asian kingdom.

In February 1996, Don Kaufman leaves wintry Oxford, Ohio, home to Miami University, and travels halfway around the world to the sub-tropical climes of Asia. Having never taken more than a couple of weeks off from teaching, Don anticipates a "never-before" experience. After thirty-six hours, he arrives in Chiang Mai and is greeted by Mike Burgett, his close college friend and world-renowned expert on honey bees. As the two rush through the airport, Mike explains that a last-minute change of plans has them heading to the mountain research station in mere hours. Four members of the Chiang Mai faculty will join them. That trip proves seminal, for on their second night on the mountain, the group discovers that each of them was born in 1944-the year of the wood monkey, according to Chinese astrology. Under an ink-black dome lit with glittering stars, they christen themselves "The Monkey Brothers," setting in motion a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. In the ensuing weeks, as they eat, drink, and fish their way throughout Northern Thailand, the six friends form a tight bond. With the Monkey Brothers for company, Don experiences a steady drumbeat of novelties-exotic foods, centuries-old temples, and local sights like the night bazaar-punctuated by incredible moments of terror, joy, and fellowship-careening down a mountain in a truck in the dead of night, accompanying an Elvis impersonator during a raucous concert, and joining the entire nation in a fireworks-splashed farewell to a member of the Thai royalty. Along the way, Don and Mike find that in the Land of Smiles, past and present co-exist peacefully: From a mountaintop in Northern Thailand, they look out in the distance toward the vast, quiet rainforests of Viet Nam, remembering friends and classmates lost in the fighting there decades ago; from the shore of a small island, they survey a reservoir created by the damming of the Kwai River, made famous by the World War II-era film, Bridge on the River Kwai; and from the back of a Honda motorbike, they zip along the streets of Chiang Mai, old friends in search of new adventures.

Nelson follows the script, and to his amazement, the show goes viral, with over four million hits! Seventy-seven-year-old Nelson suddenly finds himself a celebrity in Bangkok. He is mobbed by viewers of the video who address him as John, John, John, Nelson? when they approach him for selfies. This is only slightly less bewildering than the bows from hotel personnel whenever hes entering or leaving the lobby. As a celebrity, he finds himself in a new world halfway around the planet, enjoying adventures he could not have imagined and living a life beyond his wildest dreams. Thousands pour into the National Book Fair to meet him and obtain his autograph. Nelsons life in Bangkok, on camera and off, is filled with crazy adventures and hilarious stories. Despite being a mystical beauty with supernatural powers beyond any human abilities, there is this one guy who manages to completely get under her skin. 17-year-old Serena can't escape her true destiny any longer. She is transformed into a Siren and has to get used to a new name, new powers, and constantly attracting every man's glance. Guided by her new family members, she faces the challenge of attending High School among humans without appearing different. When Alex, the most attractive guy, reciprocates her love, she seems to finally accept her fate. However, two secrets are yet to be revealed, and Serena has to make a tough choice. This is the compelling first novel in the Heart of Power trilogy. S. L. Giger manages to add a refreshing breeze to fantasy by successfully introducing us to the world of Sirens in our modern age. - A great and innocent but nevertheless thrilling paranormal teen romance. Must read!! (reviewsbyjules) Interview with the author Q: How did you get the ideas for this book? A: I love books like Harry Potter, Twilight, and The Hunger Games but so far, I've only always concentrated on writing contemporary romances. When I was traveling through South East Asia the weird, twisted roots in the jungle inspired me that there could be a whole different world inside ours and so I tried to add a paranormal element to my romance writing and turn it into an urban fantasy romance. Q: So, are there more books by you, which your readers can enjoy? A: Well, there's the sequel of Heart of Power (Rise of the Siren). Inside "Heart of Power: Awakening of the Siren", you will find a link that will let you download it for free. Plus, I wrote another romance novel. "A sketch of what you mean to me" is a cancer love story and was published in February 2017. Q: You work a full-time job? So, when do you find the time for writing? A: Anytime I can get. On the train, before work, after work, in airports, on a plane. Sometimes I feel a bit anti-social because I much rather would want to be home writing instead of going out on a Friday evening. I have to find a balance but I feel like writing gives me more energy because it's something I really want to do. Q: You mentioned planes and airports. Do you like to travel? A: I love exploring beautiful places and I use every chance I can get to travel. I also try to keep up to date with my travel blog, which you find on my website www.swissmissontour.com Q: Who will like the Heart of Power Series? A: People who enjoy reading an urban fantasy mystery or a paranormal teen romance. However, I wouldn't say it's a young adult novel only. If you like Vampire books, I'd say the chance is big that you also like Siren books. I hope I can give something new to the readers since Siren's aren't yet as explored as vampires. I address topics like having to leave your family and friends and finding your way in a new environment, how while growing up and even as an adult you are faced with choices every day and it's important that you make a decision but that you also accept the consequences and of course, in Heart of Power, you will find the million butterflies, which you feel when you find the right guy for you and the insecurities love brings. Ebook categories: Urban fantasy romance, paranormal teen romance This book is very original and unique, in the sense that offers us a new, fresh, and modern glance at what it would be like for a Siren to exist and try to live among us a normal life. I loved S. L. Giger's take on the matter, how she presented us with the struggle Serena, who was now called Nathalie, as her old self is supposed to be dead, faced in her new life. The writing was easy, fast-paced, and smooth, and I would totally love to get to know more about Nathalie's story! (review by Caterina)
