Written testimony regarding SB 118. Although this bill does not impact SRS directly, [SRS] would like to speak to the importance of the issue it addresses. Fetal Alcohol Syndrome and Alcohol-Related Neurodevelopmental Disorders (FAS/ARND) is a new term for most people. It was not until 1973 that the diagnostic term FAS was developed. Since 1973 thousands of articles have been written about FAS/ARND. Most describe the physical effects of alcohol and other drugs on pregnancy outcomes. Until recently little information on the practical implications of FAS/ARND has been available for parents, professionals and people with FAS/ARND.
