Before establishing himself as the "master of disaster" with the 1970s films The Poseidon Adventure and The Towering Inferno, Irwin Allen created four of television's most exciting and enduring science-fiction series: Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Lost in Space, The Time Tunnel and Land of the Giants. These 1960s series were full of Allen's favorite tricks, techniques and characteristic touches, and influenced other productions from the original Star Trek forward. Every science-fiction show owes something to Allen, yet none has equaled his series' pace, excitement, or originality. This detailed examination and documentation of the premise and origin of the four shows offers an objective evaluation of every episode--and demonstrates that when Irwin Allen's television episodes were good, they were great, and when they were bad, they were still terrific fun.

The funnest dinosaur zombie story you'll ever read: Physicists have breached quantum space to open a portal to dino times. As people build a future in the past, they move displaced dinos to the island of India. When fed cattle with mad cow disease, the dinos die, only to rise with a mindless appetite for brains. The family living among history's most dangerous creatures, 67 million years in the past, must now survive the world's biggest zombies -- and time is running out. EXCERPTS: 1) "Mad cow disease has made the dinos act crazy, eat brains, with flesh falling off their faces. That means we're on an island full of zombie dinosaurs." Benita looked shocked. "Well that sucks!" 2) Roaring victory at their escape from the Raptor Pit, the smartest troodons in history were free to fight humans for control of the island. The human war against dinosaur zombies began. 3) Dead-looking sauropods with flesh falling off smashed the log palisades to get into the canyon. The first apatosaurus stomped the humans. Other big herbivores chased the humans down, crushing their skulls to slurp up their brains. 4) An aggressive mega-raptor ran fast, but the spino spun in time and smacked the mega with a huge hand. The long claw on his first finger pierced the raptor before throwing her into a rock wall with a loud thump. The others megas charged. 5) Chastity crawled out fast because a hammer the size of a car stomped the wooden tower into kindling. She saw the matriarch's hard, hungry eyes staring right at her. Pieces of skin, each the size of a human hand, hung from her neck like mud flaps. It's not often an 80-ton zombie wants to drink your brains. 6)The sauropod charged. Throwing himself to the side, he sliced the head off the brachiosaur, which fell into the hovercraft and rolled into cow shit. 7) Still naked, she turned while cocking the gun. Her bullet hit his body armor, knocking him back. He used a foot to push the bed into her and threw a knife into her shoulder. He wrapped a massive claw-hand around her throat, lifted her with one arm, and pinned her to the wall like a picture frame. His thumb and finger claws dug into her neck, her blood running down his hand. 8) The dino-prod zapped the theropod's chin and he yelped like an 8-ton puppy. The ladies walked away, showing the beast their back, which is a ballsy move, even for men. The blatant show of disrespect infuriated the carcho. 9) The brachiosaurs raced to be the first to slurp up uninfected human brains to calm their own cerebral fever. The prion from the mad cow disease swelled their brains, leaving them in excruciating pain until the consumption of uninfected cerebellum cooled it down.
