A temporary moratorium was imposed on new land uses, including gas exploration and development, in a defined highest sensitivity area in the northern part of the Great Sand Hills between July 1990 and May 1991. Four sections of Lone Pine Resources Ltd.'s proposed natural gas production and transportation project development area were included in the moratorium area. Considerable gas development has already been undertaken by Lone Pine and other developers on less environmentally sensitive areas in the vicinity of the current project area, based on a review of detailed proposals. This report describes the project and the bio-physical and socio-economic considerations.
