This first procedural guide to RUS, Resonant Ultrasound Spectroscopy offers a clear step-by-step tutorial, from developing a preliminary set of resonances to final determination of moduli. The book also contains intermediate computer outputs showing where mistakes are made, how to spot them, and how to remeasure to correct problems. Also a complete reference to the language of RUS, this book is full of clear explanations of every variable, concept, and hard-to-find term currently in use.

The information in this WRC Bulletin has been abstracted from several documents generated by the European Program for the Inspection of Steel Components (PISC), both PISC-II and PISC-III. Information was abstracted with the knowledge and consent of the PISC Management Board. The broad dissemination of the information is mutually valuable to both the nuclear and the non-nuclear organizations including fossil-fueled using the data. The information is equally relevant to non-nuclear users in fossil-fueled power plants, petrochemical plants, chemical plants, etc. The users of this report should understand that this WRC Bulletin consists of several discrete reports, each dealing with a specific material or component so that each Achapter@ is a separate report. Some parametric studies have a broader scope and relate to more than one chapter. The report attempts to address significant variables in the systems/components examined. Factors considered include the ultrasonic equipment variables influencing reliability of flaw detection, location and sizing, the value of supplementary UT techniques, and the part the operator(s) play, both negatively and positively, in the detection and sizing of flaws and in the minimization of false calls. Topics include thick-walled ferritic sections, manual and mechanized UT, wrought and cast austenitic stainless steels including wrought-to-wrought stainless steel, wrought-to-cast stainless steel and cast-to-cast stainless steel, dissimilar metal welds and human factors.
