This book contains the names of over 2,300 people who lived in the District South of French Broad & Holston who had surveys done to obtained land grants from the State of Tennessee between 1806 and 1812. It consists of abstracts of all surveys done to purchase land in the District South of French Broad & Holston. The District South of French Broad & Holston consisted of all of Blount County, almost all of Sevier County, except the tip above the French Broad River, the part of Cocke County west of the Big Pigeon River, the part of Knox County south of the French Broad River, the part of Jefferson County south of the French Broad River. Each abstract contains the person for whom the survey was made, number of acres, location of land, neighbors, entry number, date of entry, date of survey, and chain carriers, usually family members or neighbors who assisted the surveyor.

Henry Creswell was living in Virginia by 1744. He married Rebecca in about 1756 and they had eight known children. Traces descendants through their son, Andrew, who was born 12 January 1757 in South Carolina. He married Dorothy Evans 22 March 1780. They had eight children. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas.

The Reagans are said to have originated in County Meath, Ireland. The O Regans of Meath consituted one of the four tribes of Tara. The earliest tracable ancestor was a Timothy Ragan who was born in about 1678 in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. He was the father of eight children. one of his descendants was Timothy Ragan (1750-1830) who married Elizabeth Trigg (1760-?). They were the parents of twelve children and moved after the Revolutionary War to Tennessee where they settled in Sevier County. Descendants live in Tennessee.
