This highly detailed study gives data and commentary from nearly 1,300 college students about their interest in a broad range of subjects and careers in education, presenting comprehensive and specific data for interest in each of the following: undergraduate specialization in education studies, special education, early childhood education, K-12 education, high school education, distance education, teacher certification, higher education administration, education graduate school, and teaching in poor or disadvantaged programs or schools. Just a few of this comprehensive 211-page report's findings are that: Students who were particularly religious, or those especially left or right wing, were much more interested than the norm, in studying education on the undergraduate level.5.88% of the Hispanic students in the sample had already applied to a graduate school of education. Teaching in high school was one of the few fields that interested men more than women in the sample.Interest in teaching mathematics or science was highest from those raised in the US West and among students who already had a full time job.Mixed race students showed very high levels of interest in teaching higher education administration.Data is broken out by more than 20 institutional and personal variables including but not limited to income of family of origin, race/ethnicity, religion, gender, regional origins, current employment status, sexual orientation, major field of study, age, year of school standing, type of college, size of college, tuition level of college, and many other variables.

Research shows that today′s students are unique. Whether anxious, overwhelmed, or too busy to ask for help, modern students trust and turn to the resources at their fingertips for guidance. Tara Kuther created The Psychology Major′s Handbook for this purpose, to bridge the gap between advisor and manual. Created to support and follow along with a student through college, this text provides the support of an advisor as students navigate choosing a major, learning how to study, writing papers, and deciding what to do after college. Within each chapter, Kuther supports learners in applying concepts to their own lives through embedded exercises. The updated Sixth Edition encourages students to take an active role in their education and explains all of the ways that students can influence their own college experiences. Three individual chapters emphasize academics and cover crucial study and college skills, such as writing a review paper, and an APA Style empirical paper. The final four chapters of the text focus on bachelor′s and graduate opportunities to help students to look past graduation.

This publication¿the latest report from AAC&U¿s Liberal Education and America¿s Promise (LEAP) initiative¿defines a set of educational practices that research has demonstrated have a significant impact on student success. Author George Kuh presents data from the National Survey of Student Engagement about these practices and explains why they benefit all students, but also seem to benefit underserved students even more than their more advantaged peers. The report also presents data that show definitively that underserved students are the least likely students, on average, to have access to these practices.

Beyond Free College outlines an audacious national agenda—consistent with, but far more comprehensive than, the current “free college” movement—that builds on the best of US higher education’s populist history such as the G.I. Bill and the community college transfer function. The authors align a wide constellation of higher education trends—online learning, prior learning assessment, competency-based learning, high school college-credit— with a rapidly shifting student transfer environment that privileges college credit as the pivotal educational catalyst to boost access and completion. The book’s agenda seeks greater productive investment in postsecondary education by privileging a single metric—lower-cost-per-degree-granted—as the animating driver of a transfer pathway that will fulfill the potential of its historical, progressive innovators. Beyond Free College’s goal is as simple as it is urgent: To galvanize higher education advocates in an effort to reorganize, reorient, and reignite the transfer function to serve the needs of a neotraditional student population that now constitutes the majority of college-goers in America; and in ways that advance completion, not just access to higher education.

In the throes of a global skills gap and relentless labor market disruptions, organizations grapple with the pressing challenge of aligning workforce skills with the demands of a hypercompetitive economy. Reports from influential entities like the World Economic Forum and McKinsey & Company underscore the urgency for strategic interventions to bridge this divide. Despite the pivotal role of higher education and corporate training, recent findings from the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) reveal a persistent struggle in finding candidates equipped with the requisite skills for a multitude of available jobs. The deficiencies span from foundational communication skills to complex problem-solving abilities, posing a formidable hurdle for organizations seeking qualified talent. Prioritizing Skills Development for Student Employability emerges as a solution to the skills misalignment conundrum by delving into the heart of the issue, dissecting the intricacies of global workforce dynamics, education-industry collaborations, and the evolving landscape of corporate training. By exploring topics such as learning analytics, educational artificial intelligence (AI), and effective leadership in the context of present-day human resource management, the book provides a comprehensive roadmap for both academic scholars and professionals to navigate the complex terrain of skills development.
