Supported metal catalysts are used extensively across the chemical industry, ranging from fine and bulk chemical production to petrochemicals. Single atom catalysts (SACs) combine the advantages of both homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysts such as catalyst stability, activity, and high dispersion of the active phase. Supported Metal Single Atom Catalysis provides an authoritative and up-to-date overview of the emerging field, covering the synthesis, preparation, characterization, modeling, and applications of SACs. This comprehensive volume introduces the basic principles of single atom catalysis, describes metal oxide and carbon support materials for SAC preparation, presents characterization techniques and theoretical calculations, and discusses SACs in areas including selective hydrogenation, oxidation reactions, activation of small molecules, C-C bond formation, and biomedical applications. Highlights the activity, selectivity, and stability advantages of supported metal SACs compared to other heterogeneous catalysts Covers applications of SACs in thermal catalysis, electrocatalysis, and photocatalysis Includes chapters on single atom alloys and supported double and triple metal atom catalysts Discusses the prospects, challenges, and potential industrial applications of SACs Supported Metal Single Atom Catalysis is an indispensable reference for all those working in the fields of catalysis, solid-state chemistry, materials science, and spectroscopy, including catalytic chemists, organic chemists, electrochemists, theoretical chemists, and industrial chemists.

Metal-Support and Metal-Additive Effects in Catalysis, Volume 11, documents the proceedings of an international symposium organized by the Institut de Recherches sur la Catalyse - CNRS – Villeurbanne and sponsored by the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Ecully (Lyon), September 14-16, 1982. This volume contains 40 manuscripts that cover a wide range of topics. Among these are studies of metal-support interactions involving Pt/Al2O3, Pt/TiO2,Fe/TiO2, Pt/MgO, Rh /Al2O3, and Pt/CeO2 catalysts. There are also separate chapters dealing with ethane, n-butane, and cyclohexane hydrogenolysis; skeletal isomerization of methylpentanes; the catalytic activity and selectivity of noble metals; CO hydrogenation over supported on SiO2, Al2O3, Ti O2,and Zr O2 nickel catalysts; and the role of promoters in Pd catalysts for methanol synthesis. Subsequent chapters cover the poisoning of platinum and nickel by sulfur; C6H6 and CO chemisorption on Pt78Ni22 (111) single crystal alloy; the surface composition of industrial ammonia synthesis catalysts; and the role of alkalis and electronegative promoters on Fe and Ni catalysts.

The future of the precious metals is shiny and resistant. Although expensive and potentially replaceable by transition metal catalysts, precious metal implementation in research and industry shows potential. These metals catalyze oxidation and hydrogenation due to their dissociative behavior toward hydrogen and oxygen, dehydrogenation, isomerization, and aromatization, etc. The precious metal catalysts, especially platinum-based catalysts, are involved in a variety of industrial processes. Examples include Pt–Rh gauze for nitric acid production, the Pt/Al2O3 catalyst for cyclohexane and propylene production, and Pd/Al2O3 catalysts for petrochemical hydropurification reactions, etc. A quick search of the number of published articles in the last five years containing a combination of corresponding “metals” (Pt, Pd, Ru, Rh and Au) and “catalysts” as keywords indicates the importance of the Pt catalysts, but also the continuous increase in the contribution of Pd and Au. This Special Issue reveals the importance of precious metals in catalysis and focuses on mono- and bi-metallic formulations of any supported precious metals and their promotional catalytic effect of other transition metals. The application of precious metals in diverse reactions, either homogeneous or heterogeneous, and studies of the preparation, characterization, and applications of the supported precious metal catalysts, are presented.

This text explores the optimization of catalytic materials through traditional and novel methods of catalyst preparation, characterization, and monitoring for oxides, supported metals, zeolites, and heteropolyacids. It focuses on the synthesis of bulk materials and of heterogeneous materials, particularly at the nanoscale. The final chapters examine pretreatment, drying, finishing effects, and future applications involving catalyst preparation and the technological advances necessary for continued progress. Topics also include heat and mass transfer limitations, computation methods for predicting properties, and catalyst monitoring on laboratory and industrial scales.

Recent advances in catalytic methods based on earth-abundant metals are discussed. Catalysis with earth-abundant metals, often referred to as base metals, is having a transformative impact on synthetic chemistry. Research in this area is driven not only by the common interest in the sustainability of chemical synthesis but also by the vast opportunity to discover and develop novel reaction chemistry that is not attainable with rare and precious metal catalysts. This work provides representative developments in base-metal catalysis, specifically catalysis with 3d-transition metals, in a format suitable for practitioners of organic synthesis. Volume 2 is focused on recent advances in catalysis involving cobalt, iron, manganese, and chromium. Topics covered include various types of cross-coupling processes, hydrofunctionalization of alkenes and alkynes, C-H functionalizations, and catalytic Nozaki–Hiyama–Kishi-type reactions.

This book follows the 2002 edition of Catalysis by Ceria and Related Materials, which was the first book entirely devoted to ceria and its catalytic properties. In the ten years since the first edition a massive amount of work has been carried out in the field, and ceria has gained a prominent position in catalysis as one of the most valuable material for several applications. This second edition covers fundamental and applied aspects of the latest advances in ceria-based materials with a special focus on structural, redox and catalytic features. Special emphasis is given to nano-engineered and nano-shaped systems which are a key factor in the predictive and rational design of ceria with novel properties. In addition, the book presents recent advances in emerging and traditional large-scale applications of ceria in catalysis, such as the treatment of emissions from mobile sources (including diesel and gasoline engines). The primary readership includes catalysis and material science researchers from academy and industry and postdoctorate and graduate students in chemistry, chemical engineering and physics.
