A Playbook for the Greatest Team Sport Ever Played This could be the team’s breakout year. A new coach. A new system. And a couple of impact players that could take the team deep into the playoffs–even the Super Bowl. The potential is there, but will the team come together? Will they bounce back if they lose a couple of early games? Are they tough enough to play through the injuries and still perform at the championship level? Every NFL team that’s serious about winning a title has to answer those questions. And so does every husband-and-wife team that’s serious about a Super Bowl Marriage. Super Bowl Marriage tells the stories of some of the NFL’s most dramatic games, toughest players, and creative coaches–then skillfully links their lessons to life’s greatest team sport--marriage. Test your knowledge of the Super Bowl-era and learn how Bill Walsh, John Elway, Brian Urlacher, and others can help your marriage team win the championship game. From the honeymoon training camp through the fourth quarter final drive of growing old together, you and your spouse need to keep your game day focus. Success in marriage will depend on your ability to give it all for the team, do what the coaches say, and play through the pain. You two can hoist the trophy as winners in a life-long, loving relationship. Finally, a marriage playbook for the intense and exhilarating team sport of being husband and wife! Marriage can be as thrilling, demanding, and complex as any high stakes football game. Its potential for unparalleled satisfaction and joy is matched only by its potential for incredible pain and disillusionment. On the gridiron of life, where the consequences for fumbling can be disastrous, marriage is risky. You can stand on the sidelines, hoping things work out with your spouse, or rise to the challenge and know the thrill of a Super Bowl Marriage.

Transform your marriage with this revitalizing relationship guide that challenges couples to answer important questions together and grow in mutual understanding. In our modern, fast-paced society, it is easy for couples to drift apart and suddenly find their marriages in need of serious help. If this sounds familiar, then Pastor Jeff Helton and his wife Lora have a challenge for you: sit down once a week with your spouse to answer a question together. It could be something as simple as “What makes you laugh out loud?” or as deep and challenging as “If you had one day left on earth, what would you say to your spouse?” or “Are you satisfied with our level of physical intimacy?” The 50 Fridays Marriage Challenge is a fun book specifically designed to spark open and honest conversation between partners at any stage of married life. Each short chapter includes an engaging question, a brief message, an encouraging quote, a Bible scripture, and a prayer. The short messages bring hope to rocky marriages by providing a safe, gentle space for discussing important matters, such as communication, conflict, in-laws, finances, children, sex, and much more. By taking the 50 Fridays Marriage Challenge, husbands and wives will find that their Friday evening talks—whether they laugh together, delve deep into the topic at hand, or plan and dream for the future—may be the only time they spend in close conversation that doesn’t involve the kids, the checking account, or who took out the trash. Spend a few precious moments together once a week with this book, and you will ultimately see your marriage transformed.

A professor of psychiatry and human behavior offers up a positive, humorous marriage guide for husbands that plays to their strengths. Dr. Scott Haltzman, Clinical Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at Brown University, has devised a proven method for improving relationships, based on a man’s special and unique skills, strengths, powers—as a responsible and motivated worker, manager, leader, problem-solver, partner, husband, and father. Men are different, Dr. Haltzman says. They don’t approach relationships with the same skills and techniques that women do—and viva la difference. In The Secrets of Happily Married Men, Dr. Haltzman presents eight proven techniques that he developed from his research and through the confidential correspondence to his highly successful website, including: · Make Your Marriage Your Job · Know Your Wife · Be Home Now · Expect Conflict and Deal with It · Learn to Listen · Aim to Please · Understand the Truth About Sex · Celebrate Your Love Written in a humorous and entertaining style, the book provides specific analysis, guidelines, and techniques that are based on male biology, neuroscience, brain differences, and unique developmental stages from youth to seniority. In addition, The Secrets of Happily Married Men contains compelling true stories, anecdotes, and confessions written by and for men (and the women who love them). Praise for The Secrets of Happily Married Men “Lively and entertaining, this broad guidebook provides Haltzman's insights illuminated by anecdotes from his online discussion forum for married men.” —Psychology Today “Haltzman . . . launches his eight strategies with remarkable vigor. More important, they are extraordinarily well fleshed out and convincingly supported with useful “to do” lists and a multitude of examples. They will no doubt prove helpful to many men struggling to build a happy marriage.” —Publishers Weekly

The simple message of this book is that divorcing husbands and wives should not allow divorce lawyers to send them off on a fool’s errand that will take what is already a tragedy in their lives and turn it into a nightmare. That is when they are persuaded to employ the law as a weapon in a legal tug of war the object of which is simply to get as much as you can and to give as little as you have to. Rather, they should look to the law as a common framework that they can turn to in their effort to conclude an agreement and thereby get on with their lives. There is a name for this. It is called divorce mediation and it doesn’t take forever or cost a king’s ransom.

American public opinion tends to be sticky. Although the news cycle might temporarily affect the public's mood on contentious issues like abortion, the death penalty, or gun control, public opinion toward these issues has remained remarkably constant over decades. There are notable exceptions, however, particularly with regard to divisive issues that highlight identity politics. For example, over the past three decades, public support for same-sex marriage has risen from scarcely more than a tenth to a majority of the population. Why have people's minds changed so dramatically on this issue, and why so quickly? It wasn't just that older, more conservative people were dying and being replaced in the population by younger, more progressive people; people were changing their minds. Was this due to the influence of elite leaders like President Obama? Or advocacy campaigns by organizations pushing for greater recognition of the equal rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) people? Listen, We Need to Talk tests a new theory, what Brian Harrison and Melissa Michelson call The Theory of Dissonant Identity Priming, about how to change people's attitudes on controversial topics. Harrison and Michelson conducted randomized experiments all over the United States, many in partnership with equality organizations, including Equality Illinois, Georgia Equality, Lambda Legal, Equality Maryland, and Louisiana's Capital City Alliance. They found that people are often willing to change their attitudes about LGBT rights when they find out that others with whom they share an identity (for example, as sports fans or members of a religious group) are also supporters of those rights-particularly when told about support from a leader of the group, and particularly if they find the information somewhat surprising. Fans of the Green Bay Packers football team were influenced by hearing that a Packers Hall-of-Famer is a supporter of LGBT rights. African Americans were influenced by hearing that the Black president of the United States is a supporter. Religious individuals were influenced by hearing that a religious leader is a supporter. And strong partisans were influenced by hearing that a leader of their party is a supporter. Through a series of engaging experiments and compelling evidence, Listen, We Need to Talk provides a blueprint for thinking about how to bring disparate groups together over contentious political issues.

Within the past fifty years of social transformations, the institution of marriage has witnessed a portentous shrinkage in size and importance. The rates of divorce, even as they seem to be leveling off today compared with few decades ago, are still a source of much confusion. Challenges in interpersonal relations between men and women with an aim of forming a family have become even more complicated, rendering marriages extraneous. For the young adults, however, the so-called millennials, who continue to be flustered by the welter of demographic changes and sociological experiences, marked with a growing power of women in socioeconomic status, and constantly in search of explanations, a marriage (as a rite of passage) is still relevant. But if we're to salvage the institution of marriage from extinction and that of family defined by father, mother, and children, says Mokes Gama, we must critically analyze our own attitudes on patriarchal, feminism, education, and individualistic values that we embrace and adjust accordingly.
