"This is the first bilingual presentation of an ancient and powerful Hopi legend. The creation of Sunset Crater, in northeastern Arizona, plays a climactic role in this legend in which the Ka'nas kachina mingles with mortals, and through a saga of marriage and magic, betrayal and revenge, prosperity and famine, tests their loyalty, brings them to near starvation, and, finally, takes pity on the steadfast survivors. Also included in this volume are chapters on the archaeology and geology of the Sunset Crater region. A discussion of the Hopi alphabet and an extensive glossary benefit those more interested in Hopi language. Because legend and folklore capture the basic foundations of culture, this book is an important contribution to Hopi literature, and takes an important stride toward reaching cross-cultural understanding"--Book cover.

The largest iron meteorite discovered in the United States, weighing 15.5 tons, was unearthed in West Linn in 1902 and featured in the 1905 World's Fair before journeying to New York's American Museum of Natural History, where it remains. West Linn was carved onto the map years before, when Robert Moore purchased 1,000 acres of land in 1840 from the Wallamut Indians at Willamette Falls. Soon a lumber mill and flour mill were established, and the region was given a new name--Linn City--after free-state advocate Lewis F. Linn. Hugh Burns and the Miller, Fields, and Walling families also figured in early West Linn history. Though an 1861 fire, then flood, destroyed what was Linn City, the falls continued drawing industry. Officially incorporated into Oregon in 1913, West Linn, known for its hills, trees, rivers, and famous meteorite, is a sought-after community in which to raise families and made the 2005 top-100 list of best places to live.

Mara, the daughter of an Irish king, was raised to believe the Northmen are murderous pagans without a moral bone in their bodies. Despite warnings of their violent raids and the growing threat of another incursion, Mara is continually drawn to her favorite place - the River Shannon. Dægan Ræliksen, a wealthy chieftain from Norway's frozen fjords, secretly discovers Mara at the water's edge. Charmed by her beauty and sensuous grace, he decides his search for a wife has ended. Mara and Dægan come face-to-face in a time when every Irishman is being called up to fight against the Viking foreigners. To acquire the woman he treasures, Dægan must make peace with Mara's father, but can Mara move past her fears and find the noble man within the savage? *Previously published as Raeliksen. Building contractor Taylor Addison suffered severe first- and second-degree burns when someone sideswiped her parked car. The impact spilled scalding coffee over her left hand, leaving her slightly scarred. In this civil case version of State v. Peyton, Addison has filed a complaint against Jordan Peyton alleging negligence and negligence per se. Addison further alleges that Peyton operated her car in an unsafe manner while under the influence of alcohol and struck Addison's car causing the coffee she was holding to spill over onto her hand, which resulted in severe burns. Is the damage on Peyton’s car proof of a collision with Addison’s, or merely coincidence? How do the field sobriety tests and BAC evidence influence the determination on whether Peyton hit Addison’s car? Was Peyton’s arrest and breathalyzer test mishandled? Advocates will enjoy working either side of this well-balanced case. New to the Third Edition:
