The first victim never saw it coming. As the rope tightened around his neck, he clawed desperately at the killer's hands. Before surrendering to death, he realized who the killer was and simply asked, "Why?" Police Chief Madelyn Barclay jumps into the investigation like a hound on the trail but before long there's another killing. Then another. Solid evidence eludes her as subtle connections lead her astray. Dead-end clues play havoc with her mind. Burrowing deeper into the investigation, she realizes there's more going on than just murder. It's a mind game of power. As the department's first female police chief, Madelyn has much to prove and she worries that her reputation will suffer. Time runs short and the pressure is on. Desperate for help, she enlists the services of her old gumshoe friend, Craige McCall, who is immediately thrust into a psychological game of hide-and-seek with the killer. Finally, a suspect emerges but he's always one step ahead and he's loaded with alibis. Could they be on the wrong track again? This killer has proven to be a terrifying adversary whose next victim might very well be one of the department's own. Chilling suspense to the very end.

Join A. W. Tozer as He Encounters the Holy Spirit Spend a year unearthing the wonder of the Holy Spirit alongside A. W. Tozer. Tozer was a man who thirsted for the Spirit of God, who prayed often and shunned distraction so that he might drink Him in more steadily. In these daily meditations on Scripture, Tozer will inspire you to do the same. According to Tozer, the Spirit is neglected by the modern church. But when believers know the Spirit—intimately and accurately—they experience freedom from stagnancy. They know power and life. This devotional explores many of the defining characteristics of the Holy Spirit. Each day stokes the believer's internal desire to hunger and thirst after the Spirit of God. Encounter Tozer’s heart and wisdom like never before in this newly revised edition. Continue worshiping alongside Tozer with the rest of his Trinitarian devotions: Tozer on the Son of God and Tozer on the Almighty God. With each page, may your heart be filled and your worship increased.

BLESSED JOHN HENRY NEWMAN COLLECTION [26 BOOKS] — Quality Formatting and Value — Active Index, Multiple Table of Contents for all Books — Multiple Illustrations John Henry Newman C.O., also referred to as Cardinal Newman, John Henry Cardinal Newman, and Blessed John Henry Newman, was a Catholic cardinal and theologian who was a very important figure in the religious history of England in the 19th century. He was known nationally by the mid-1830s.Originally an evangelical Oxford University academic and priest in the Church of England, Newman then became drawn to the high-church tradition of Anglicanism. He became known as a leader of, and an able polemicist for, the Oxford Movement, an influential and controversial grouping of Anglicans who wished to return to the Church of England many Catholic beliefs and liturgical rituals from before the English Reformation. —BOOKS— AN ESSAY IN AID OF A GRAMMAR OF ASSENT AN ESSAY ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF CHRISTIAN DOCTRINE APOLOGIA PRO VITA SUA CALLISTA DISCOURSES ADDRESSED TO MIXED CONGREGATIONS DISCUSSIONS AND ARGUMENTS ESSAYS: CRITICAL AND HISTORICAL FAITH AND PREJUDICE HISTORICAL SKETCHES LECTURES: ON CERTAIN DIFFICULTIES FELT BY ANGLICANS IN SUBMITTING TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH LECTURES: ON JUSTIFICATION LECTURES: ON THE PRESENT POSITION OF CATHOLICS IN ENGLAND PAROCHIAL AND PLAIN SERMONS SERMON NOTES SERMONS: BEARING ON SUBJECTS OF THE DAY SERMONS: CHIEFLY ON THE THEORY OF RELIGIOUS BELIEF SERMONS: PREACHED ON VARIOUS OCCASIONS STRAY ESSAYS: ON CONTROVERSIAL POINTS THE ARIANS OF THE FOURTH CENTURY THE IDEA OF A UNIVERSITY THE MONTH: AN ILLUSTRATED MAGAZINE OF LITERATURE, SCIENCE, AND ART THE VIA MEDIA OF THE ANGLICAN CHURCH TRACTS: THEOLOGICAL AND ECCLESIASTICAL TWO ESSAYS ON SCRIPTURE MIRACLES AND ON ECCLESIASTICAL A LETTER ADDRESSED TO THE DUKE OF NORFOLK: ON OCCASION OF MR. This volume supplements "The Quotable Newman" (Sophia Institute Press, 2012), with 136 new topics and an overlap of 39 topics. Volume II is a bit more wide-ranging and perhaps also more "fun" (in a sense) for Newman devotees. Examples of the latter aspect might include Cardinal Newman's reflections upon his own writing and books, science and Christianity, heaven and hell, and old age. The citations also tend to be relatively shorter, and to include proportionately more material from his correspondence. I found two additional volumes of "Letters and Diaries" (volumes 27 and 28): covering the years of 1874-1878. They contain a lot of excellent observations and "gems" on a variety of topics, that I was delighted to find and now to pass along, for the education and edification of the reader. Once again, theology is the overwhelming emphasis. Anyone interested in Cardinal Newman's Catholic (or Anglican) doctrinal thinking and beliefs will, I trust, enjoy and learn from what I have compiled.

Based on the popular spiritual healing program designed by Bob Schuchts and the John Paul II Healing Center, Lenten Healing offers a twist to traditional Lenten fasting: instead of giving up chocolate, give up your sin. This daily Lenten devotional offers a unique approach to fasting, helping you reexamine the psychological and spiritual roots of sin in your life while sharing reflections and prayer exercises for overcoming sinful habits and acquiring virtuous ones. Lent is the ideal time to identify and address "spiritual blind spots"—unacknowledged emotional wounds and false ideas that hinder your prayer life and worship. During each week of Lent, Ken Kniepmann of the John Paul II Healing Center breaks open one of the seven deadly sins (pride, lust, gluttony, sloth, anger, envy, and greed) and its corresponding virtue (humility, chastity, abstinence, diligence, patience, kindness, and liberality). You'll start by learning about the sin and how it manifests itself in daily life and thought patterns. Then you'll move into reflection and prayer exercises that guide you through the process of renouncing that week's sin and resolving to adopt that week's virtue. Fasting, the practice of giving up pleasures or comforts, allows us to grow in holiness by putting our desires to a kind of death. Obvious examples include giving up a habit such as a favorite food, sleeping in, or late-night TV—but what happens when you try to give up your sins while recognizing the deeper reasons you commit them in the first place? By seeing those connections and praying specifically for God's insight, healing, and revelation, you’ll be able to experience God’s mercy and love to a greater capacity. Kniepmann helps you see how the depth of Catholic teaching is connected to your daily life. Sin isn't just an activity; it is a place of the heart (the interior life) and the movement of the heart (toward or away from sin) as related to thoughts, beliefs, and emotions. By the time Easter arrives, you'll possess a deeper understanding of sin and emotional wounds as impediments to intimacy with God and come away with tangible, practical tools for addressing those impediments in your life.

Have Christians become so preoccupied with the major sins of our society that we have lost sight of our need to deal with our own more subtle sins? In this booklet adapted from Jerry Bridges’ bestselling book Respectable Sins, Jerry returns to his trademark theme of holiness and addresses these more subtle sins (often considered acceptable) and how to deal with them through the remedy of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Sins such as jealousy, anger, pride, judgmentalism, and unthankfulness are addressed in this booklet. Jerry writes not from a height of spiritual accomplishment but from the trenches of his own battles with sin. In his admonitions, Jerry offers a message of hope in the profound mercy of the gospel and the transforming grace of God as the means to overcome our subtle sins.
