This collection of papers on issues in the theory of mental representation expresses a diversity of recent reflections on the idea that C. D. Broad so aptly characterized in the title of his book Mind and the World Order. An important impetus in the project of organizing this work were the discussions I had with Keith Lehrer while I was a Visiting Scholar in the department of Philosophy at the University of Arizona. His encouragement and friendship were of great value to me and I wish to express my thanks to him here. A word of thanks too for Mike Harnish who casually suggested the title Rerepresentation. I wish to express my thanks to Hans Schuurmans of the Computer Center at Tilburg University for his patient and cheerful assistance in preparing the manuscript. Professor J. Verster of the University of Groningen kindly provided the plates for the Ames Room figures. Thieu Kuys helped not only with the texts but also relieved me of chores so that I could devote more time to meeting deadlines. Barry Mildner had a major role in the text preparation using his skills and initiative in solving what seemed like endless technical problems. My deepest thanks are reserved for Anti Sax whose contribution to the project amount to a co-editorship of this volume. She participated in every phase of its development with valuable suggestions, prepared the indexes, and worked tirelessly to its completion.

"A secret brought us together. Another will destroy us." - Johan Johan For two years, I've kept a secret locked away—buried deep beneath the pressures of being a PhD student and researcher in Archaeology at Cambridge. I once harbored a harmless crush on Elise—a Dutch noblewoman who seemed like a good match—but it was her younger sister, the mesmerizing Hannah, who ultimately stole my heart. Her sharp wit, bright eyes, and infectious laughter drew me in, yet I held back—for her youth, my reputation as Elise's former crush, and the distance between us made pursuing her unthinkable. But now, Hannah is back in my life, stepping onto the hallowed grounds of Cambridge as a fresher. The once-dormant attraction reawakens with a force that threatens to unravel the careful life I've built. As she navigates her new world, long-buried secrets and forbidden desires rise to the surface, pulling us into a dangerous affair. The line between duty and longing blurs, and the stakes have never been higher. Can I hold onto the life I've built, or will Hannah’s presence push me to the brink, forcing me to risk everything for the chance at something more?

Intended for advanced students and practising social historians who see social history as a problem-solving discipline, the methodological problems examined include the absence of social categories, fragmenting evidence, the appraisal of rival explanations, the use of socially constructed evidence to substantiate claims about realities, how to avoid presentism and when its practice is justifiable, how to distinguish important causes and how to tell similarities from differences.

The Second Edition of Sociology in Action: Social Problems is ideal for teachers who want to provide students with an active learning experience that relies less on lecturing and more on discussion, collaboration, self-directed investigation, observation, analysis, and reflection. This text is an effective tool for departments interested in bringing more students into the sociology major, as it provides students with concrete ways to make use of sociological training in the "real" world. Maxine P. Atkinson and Kathleen Odell Korgen engage students in active learning in class, on their own, and in their local communities, as they explore a range of social problems and consider sociological solutions to issues facing society today. Sociology In Action: Social Problems, Second Edition is one of the volumes in our "In Action" series of undergraduate sociology texts. The two signature features of this series are (1) a set of carefully developed and assignable learning activities in each chapter; and (2) chapters contributed by authors who are both experts in their subjects and committed to the kind of active learning promoted by the SIA texts. This title is accompanied by a complete teaching and learning package in SAGE Vantage, an intuitive learning platform that integrates quality SAGE textbook content with assignable multimedia activities and auto-graded assessments to drive student engagement and ensure accountability.

Chris Henderson formed the Chelsea Headhunters – who later earned a reputation as the most dangerous fans in Britain - as well as the band Combat 84 who, with their punk attitude and uncut, Orwellian lyrics, represented the antithesis of middle-class England. After the jailing of Stephen 'Hickey' Hickmott, Henderson organised a gang of Chelsea fans who travelled to matches by luxury coach with the aim of causing havoc and destruction. They were finally arrested and their subsequent trial was meant to be the crowning glory of Thatcher's campaign to vanquish hooliganism. Instead, the dramatic collapse of the case sounded the death knell for all the undercover police operations and mass indiscriminate arrests that had been ordered by the authorities to squash the activities of Henderson and others. The 'Ministry' continued to pursue Henderson and prior to the 2002 World Cup, he and Hickmott were named as the two leaders planning hooligan and criminal acts for the tournament in South Korea and Japan, which culminated in Henderson being arrested and refused entry to Japan for the England v. Argentina match. Told in Henderson's exact words, this is the dramatic story of an era of music and football, when how you looked counted as much as how you performed. With its depiction of events surrounding South Korea/Japan 2002, Who Wants It? also shows how the scourge of hooliganism continues to blight the beautiful game today.
