St. Peter's Cemetery was near St. Peter's Catholic Church and was laid out around 1860. Records were destroyed when the rectory burned in the mid 1920's. The earliest existing stone dates from 1863.

Peter (Petrus) Kessenich (1808-1879) was born in Oedekoven, Prussia (now Germany). He married Elisabeth Streng in 1837. She died before 1848, and Peter married Gertrude Lollyn. They immigrated to the United States in 1848 with Peter's brother, Henry (Heinrich), and his family and settled in Ashton, Dane County, Wisconsin. Descendants and relatives lived in Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Louisiana, California and elsewhere. Includes ancestors in Germany and Scotland.
