Since the publication of the bestselling Sounding the Seasons, Malcolm Guite has repeatedly been asked for more sonnets. This new collection offers a sequence of 50 sonnets that focus on many passages in the Gospels: the Beatitudes, parables and miracles, teachings on the Kingdom, and the ‘hard sayings’ - Jesus’ challenging demands with which we wrestle. In addition this collection includes: •A sequence of seven sonnets on 'The Wilderness', exploring mysterious stories of divine encounter such as Jacob’s wrestling with the angel. •Poetic reflections on music, hospitality and ecology. •Seven short poems celebrating the days of creation. •A biblical index pairing the poems with scripture readings for use in worship.

This book is a culmination of fifty-eight years of transcribing thoughts that, when penned, evolved as poetry about faith, hope, pain, love, grace, and forgiveness. I never set down to write. I only captured the words that would begin to dance in my mind and watch as the remainder of the message fell into place. Sometimes, it would be several in a cluster. Or only one at a time. There would be months and, sometimes, years between. In this last year, there has been a more consistent flow. I can’t explain why. I can only say that I am humbled to be used in this way. If anyone reads these words and finds solace and hope, I believe my mission has been accomplished.

Songs of My Heart - includes 12 poems that are written for the purpose not only for inspiration but to give hope reaching down to the very depths of our souls to connect with God. The poems reflect my desire to write about what I love the most - that Gods is remarkable. and encompasses my whole being. "I fear not because of He who is with me; I walk under the shadows; Sheltered Protected Empowered Body, soul and spirit Never alone."

So many times, in my life I was silent when I needed to voice my opinion, share my thoughts, and tell it like it really is. My maternal family is quite dysfunctional and plagued with generational curses: addictions (cigarettes, weed, Pepsi sodas, food, gambling, bingo, drugs, sex), mental illnesses (schizophrenia, bipolar, depression, anxiety, attention deficit disorder, panic attacks), illnesses (heart disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, thyroid disease), and poverty. As a result, I have a lot of material for my poetry books. It is somewhat therapeutic to me to be able to say it, name it, and bury it. Since writing the poems, so many things in my life have changed. I am a saved follower of Jesus Christ who is happily married with a child. I am actually in a happy place in my life, but some of those poems were sensual, flirty, happy, sad, outraged, or even dark, unfiltered, and raw because that was how I felt at those moments of my life. You have been warned about the content, so let's dive in.

This book is all about embellishing every facet of life with the art called poetry. Yes, this art transcends all creeds and brings together mankind under one umbrella of symbiotic co-existence. The most banal and the most intense truth is made enduringly beautiful with poetry, which is essentially written with the ink of compassion dissolved in pain. Every poem is an attempt to discover the core of human psyche; the way it perceives and deals with relationships and situations of all kinds. I believe I have been successful to a certain extent in bringing out the truth which is so evasive otherwise. This truth imparts the unique beauty and lasting appeal to my poems as it dazzles and floats on the surface of each poem. It is a result of the churning of the soul with the curdler of heart. Hope you enjoy these poems as they are my sincere effort to bring out the best to your esteemed and sensible self.
