"This is the best slow-burn romance I have ever read."—New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Ward If I closed my eyes, I could still see them—all blonde sunshine, ocean-blue eyes, and long limbs. The glint of Lake’s gold bracelet. Pink cotton candy on Tiffany’s tongue. My scenery may have changed from heaven to hell, but some things never would: my struggle to do right by both sisters. To let Lake soar. To lift Tiffany up. The sacrifices I made for them, I made willingly. A better man would’ve walked away by now, but I never claimed to be any good. I only promised myself I’d keep enough distance. If I’d learned one thing from my past, it was that love came in different forms. You could love passionately, hurt deep, die young. Or you could provide the kind of firm, steady support someone else could lean on. Lake was everything I wanted, and nothing I could ever have. I was nobody before I knew her and a criminal after. The way to love her was to let her shine—even if it would be for somebody else. Book two in a completed, USA TODAY bestselling love saga.

A collection of essays extended from The New York Times' most-read article of 2016. Anyone we might marry could, of course, be a little bit wrong for us. We don’t expect bliss every day. The fault isn’t entirely our own; it has to do with the devilish truth that anyone we’re liable to meet is going to be rather wrong, in some fascinating way or another, because this is simply what all humans happen to be – including, sadly, ourselves. This collection of essays proposes that we don’t need perfection to be happy. So long as we enter our relationships in the right spirit, we have every chance of coping well enough with, and even delighting in, the inevitable and distinctive wrongness that lies in ourselves and our beloveds.

It’s never too late to make the right choice. No matter how hard she tries, Hannah Morrison Keesling can’t get life right. She’s hopped from one career to the next, but fears she will never live up to the fame and success of her parents. Hannah’s also jumped from one relationship to the next, but couldn’t get that right either. In the end, she settled for a marriage with financier Michael Keesling. Because he loved her. Because he wouldn’t leave. Somewhere along the way between leaving New York and moving to Southern California, Michael changed. Or maybe he’d always been the cold and casually cruel man she’d come to dread waking up to every morning. Either way, Hannah is full of regret and ready to remake her life. Off she goes with her dog to the black sand beaches of Shelter Cove along California’s Lost Coast. Once there she realizes that settling for a ‘good enough’ husband isn’t the way she wants to live the rest of her life. When Hannah meets veterinarian Ben Cooper, she wants nothing more than to make the right decision the second time around. But will Ben choose to carve out a future with…someone else’s wife? Early readers are saying... "...it was just great! The story was riveting and the characters were realistic." "Filled with love, doubt, yearning, desire, and confusion we travel down a path of discovery of what it takes to achieve what everyone really wants in life unconditional love and acceptance." "This is a wonderful story, written with beauty, love, and heartfelt emotion." Growing up, I have always had a desire to write poetry. It has become my greatest passion; there is nothing that compasses to expressing your true feelings of the heart. I give God all the glory for my ability to do so. These poems are about being open and honest when expressing your feelings for the one that you love without any hesitations, and if your feelings are real, there shouldnt be. Love is a real emotion that should not be toyed with. After you read this book, read it again; let it enter your mind and soul. Love is a powerful thing, there is a lot that I could say, but I would like for you to read it for yourself, and your feelings and emotions will automatically enhance because I feel it too.

Argues that first- and second-generation Jewish American writers had an ambivalent relationship with educational success. Jewish American immigrants and their children have been stereotyped as exceptional educational achievers, with attendance at prestigious universities leading directly to professional success. In College Bound, Dan Shiffman uses literary accounts to show that American Jews relationship with education was in fact far more complex. Jews expected book learning to bring personal fulfillment and self-transformation, but the reality of public schools and universities often fell short. Shiffman examines a wide range of novels and autobiographies by first- and second-generation writers, including Abraham Cahan, Mary Antin, Anzia Yezierska, Elizabeth Gertrude Stern, Ludwig Lewisohn, Marcus Eli Ravage, Lionel Trilling, and Leo Rosten. Their visions of learning as a process of critical questioningenlivening the mind, interrogating cultural standards, and confronting social injusticespresent a valuable challenge to todays emphasis on narrowly measurable outcomes of student achievement. This is a rich, well-researched, and compelling study that displays a mastery of its authors and texts, as well as the relevant scholarly studies. It presents its findings in fluent, readable prose. Eric Sundquist, Johns Hopkins University Shiffman makes an important and timely contribution to the field of American Jewish studies, especially involving the place of education at the turn of the twentieth century and into the war years.
