Richard Stout married Penelope, the survivor of a shipwreck and scalping in the years 1680-90 in New York. They settled in New Jersey and raised a family of twelve sons. Penelope was from Holland. A son Jonathan Stout and his family were the founders of the Hopewell settlement in Hunterdon Co., NJ, where the Hopewell Baptist Church was established. Another son, David Stout had a son Benjamin (b. 1706). Philemon Stout (1785-1846), grandson of Benjamin, was taken by his parents to Fayette Co., Kentucky. He married Penelope Anderson and settled in Scott Co. Later, the family moved to Ball Township, Sangamon Co., Illinois in 1836. Descendants lived in Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas and elsewhere. Several generations of descendants are given.

This "Supplement to Genealogies in the Library of Congress" lists all genealogies in the Library of Congress that were catalogued between 1972 and 1976, showing acquisitions made by the Library in the five years since publication of the original two-volume Bibliography. Arranged alphabetically by family name, it adds several thousand works to the canon, clinching the Bibliography's position as the premier finding-aid in genealogy.
