Rock-Solid Living in a Quicksand World is an extremely critical conversation Jesus is having with twenty-first century nations and people regarding the importance of looking back in order to actually have a future. At the end of the Sermon on the Mount, we hear Him teaching us to look backward in Matthew's Gospel (chapters 7 through 5,) and He says, "Embrace these teachings of mine, and actually live by them. Then, when the CAT-5 hurricanes of life pummel you, you will bear up under them! Choose otherwise, and you will collapse in a melodramatic way!" The USA and Western culture are on the path of Rome and Greece. Our foundations are crumbling in much the same way the foundations of these ancient superpowers turned to dust and ruin. These once-great historical titans now stand as crumbling ruins, viewed by today's tourists. They are seen as once great mighty nations that once were but never more shall be. Likewise, our foundations are turning into quicksand. Within the pages of this book, Jesus is calling us back to his teachings, which served us so well. Yes, it is in these teachings that we find personal, national, and cultural salvation and hope for a future. Here in his teachings, we will find the rock-solid foundation for our ever-increasingly crumbling quicksand world.

This book is intended as a spiritual growth tool and should be used in conjunction with time in the Word, regular fellowship with other believers, and council with spiritual mentors. We Christians are all on our way toward becoming like Jesus. This means that each day our Heavenly Father carves a little more of his Sons image into our character. I pray this book will be a tool the Holy Spirit can use to guide you through each days challenges. The scriptures in these meditations are verses that contain imperative mode verbs in the Greek New Testament epistles and letters. An imperative mode verb is a strong indicator of an authors purpose in a passage, so I give them special attention when I study the Word. Each passage has been chosen for its poignant application to our individual daily lives. The translation is my own and has been translated in a style that I hope will emphasize certain nuances of the Greek language pertinent to each days meditation.

It all started during our coffee time as we talked, and this eventually became the short story of their lives. Since my father did not write about their personal life together, my siblings and close friends of our parents asked Mamma to write their story. This gave me the drive to write the journey of the match made in heaven--my parents--that led to the development of a community as well as the foundation of Protestant faith in Aira, Wollaga. I wanted to share this wonderful life of my parents with others who shared their views and values without leaving anything behind. The seventy years of their lives and work might take over five volumes, but I wanted to get the firsthand story as much as I could from her. After our father's death, my mother moved with us to the USA. I have had a wonderful time with her talking about their journey. I learned untold and powerful stories of their lives that made me stronger than ever before. They were blessed with the growth of Christian community and the fruit that was budding. My mother was fifteen when she married my father. They had nine children together. Six are alive, and three have gone to God. My mother is a loving, hardworking, determined, "Never settle for less," and go-getter type of person. My father was an observer, pastor, educator, writer, storyteller, poet, and a patient person. Thus, they taught their children to work hard and never give up on life, to value human life, know our rights, and fight for the voiceless no matter where we live. These are the patterns of life that they both lived, whether life was good or difficult. They valued and loved the Aira community that they built together. They accomplished their dreams and abundantly appreciated it. They both lived a public life, cherished and respected each other. God stood by both of them and carried them through their journey. This is the short story of their lives. I am thankful to God for giving my mother a bright mind that remembers things that had happened throughout their lives. I'm also grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to write about these wonderful people who shone in all our lives. 12

A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.
