The selections are illustrated with color drawings in a variety of styles often taken from the original work. The teacher's edition provides suggestions for pre-reading preparation and post-reading extension activities for each selection which focus on literature appreciation, listening, oral reading, vocabulary development, art activities, and research skills. Students are asked to participate in activities such as locating homonyms in a story, distinguishing between fact and fiction, reading as a choral group, constructing a collage, and composing poetry.
