Is her chance to have it all shrinking along with her waistline? All Evelyn Mays wants is to be the perfect bride in a size 8 Vera Wang wedding dress. Call her superficial, but when your boyfriend has turned up at your office and dramatically proposed—your green-withenvy colleagues watching in astonishment—there's a certain image to live up to! Evie senses that her supposedly fast-track career is spiraling away from her, but at least there's something she can control: her Big Day. She just has to transform herself from a cuddly brunette into a svelte blonde…. But changing her appearance proves addictive; Evie develops a taste for experimenting: new friends…new men? Her best friend, convinced that Mr. Right is just an urban legend anyway, eggs her on to have one last fling. Only, is Evie discovering her true self, or playing a game of chance that will end in trouble?

Slimming and dieting has become such a fixation among Singaporeans that manufacturers and distributors of weight-reducing products are laughing all the way to the bank. However, the recent spate of controversies surrounding slimming pills is no laughing matter. This book is a collection of articles accessible to anyone who wants to know more about the phenomenon, its consequences and related topics. Its purpose is not to champion the “ideal” of being slim, but rather to provide a platform for meaningful discussion and for educating the general public about a healthier way of living.Written by people from all walks of life, such as doctors, lawyers, academics, counsellors and journalists, the book takes a thoughtful and at times light-hearted look at Singaporeans' “obsession” with their body image, and reflects on other issues it raises. The star attractions of this book are interviews with two of Singapore's best-loved comedians, Moses Lim and Hossan Leong. Let them give you a humorous first-hand account of how they view and come to terms with their own body size and turn it into confidence both on and off the stage.

Written by a Sydney native, English, The Aussie Way: A Fun Guide to Australia’s Colourful Phrases, Words, and Expressions offers an amusing way for English or non-English speakers around the world to learn the colloquial phrases for which Australia is famous. This user-friendly reference provides words/phrases and meanings/synonyms by using an example sentence. Says the author, “For seven years I housed international students who were attending English language schools in Sydney, and I realised that although they had a good grasp of formal grammar, they struggled to understand not only colloquial English, but many of the commonly used phrasal verbs, which could not be found in a standard English/Spanish, French, etc., dictionary. It was then that I decided to start writing some of them down for future reference and it grew from there.”

The vibrant and enigmatic Exeter Riddles (ca. 960–980) are among the most compelling texts in the field of medieval studies, in part because they lack textually supplied solutions. Indeed, these ninety-five Old English riddles have become so popular that they have even been featured on posters for the London Underground and have inspired a sculpture in downtown Exeter. Modern scholars have responded enthusiastically to the challenge of solving the Riddles, but have generally examined them individually. Few have considered the collection as a whole or in a broader context. In this book, Patrick Murphy takes an innovative approach, arguing that in order to understand the Riddles more fully, we must step back from the individual puzzles and consider the group in light of the textual and oral traditions from which they emerged. He offers fresh insights into the nature of the Exeter Riddles’ complexity, their intellectual foundations, and their lively use of metaphor.
