Soul Sisters by Lesley Lokko is a rich, intergenerational tale of love, race, power and secrets which centres on the lifelong friendship between two women: Scottish Jen McFadden and South African-born Kemisa Mashabane, known to her friends as Kemi. Since childhood, Jen and Kemi have lived like sisters in the McFadden family home in Edinburgh, brought together by a shared family history which stretches back generations. Kemi was educated in Britain alongside Jen and the girls could not be closer; nor could they be more different in the paths they take in life. But the ties that bind them are strong and complicated, and a dark family secret exists in their joint history. Solam Rhoyi is from South Africa’s black political elite. Handsome, charismatic, charming, and a successful young banker, he meets both Kemi and Jen on a trip to London and sweeps them off their feet. Partly influenced by her interest in Solam, and partly on a journey of self-discovery, Kemi, now 31, decides to return to the country of her birth for the first time. Jen, seeking an escape from her father’s overbearing presence, decides to go with her. In Johannesburg, it becomes clear that Solam is looking for the perfect wife to facilitate his soaring political ambitions. But who will he choose? All the while, the real story behind the two families’ connection threatens to reveal itself – with devastating consequences . . .

More than 11 million women run regularly, a number that's growing every year. They tend to be educated and affluent-the perfect audience for Sole Sisters. Half of all runners are women, and they are changing the face of the sport. It's a social outlet, a healthful way to improve mental well-being, and an opportunity to form bonds with like-minded women. Sole Sisters: Stories of Women and Running is a gripping collection of stories that captures the inspirational heart of the women's running. Authors Jennifer Lin and Susan Warner have interviewed women of all ages from all walks of life and all parts of the country. All of their subjects have one thing in common: Running has transformed them. There are both heartrending stories of grief and survival and lighthearted tales of friendship. Among them are: * Sisters who competed in a 5K race to honor a sister who survived breast cancer. * A 9/11 widow who ran her first marathon to honor the memory of her husband. * A 65-year-old woman who overcame obesity and alcoholism to finish the grueling Ironman triathlon. * An unknown runner from Norway named Grete Waitz who decided to run a marathon-and changed the face of the sport. Sole Sisters: Stories of Women and Running is not just for women who run. It appeals to all women who know what it means to have the support of others who share their trials and triumphs. Sole Sisters: Stories of Women and Running is sometimes touching, sometimes funny, and always inspiring.

This book focuses on the autobiographical poetry of early twentieth century author Antonia Pozzi and her lifelong friend and fellow poet, Vittorio Sereni. Antonia Pozzi, an author whose popularity in Italy has increased dramatically in the past few years, was a young girl during the First World War. She was born into a wealthy and influential family, and, after the rise of Fascism, her father was a prominent state official. In 1938 Pozzi committed suicide at the age of twenty-six. Her major collection of poems, Parole, was published posthumously. Pozzi’s best friend, "brother" and most devoted confidant, Vittorio Sereni, is a more recognizable figure in Italian literary history. Born in 1913, a year after Pozzi, he served in the Italian Army during World War II, and was held in an allied prison camp in Algeria during the last years of the war. While Sereni is by far the better-known author, his response to the war experience and, particularly, to imprisonment recalls Pozzi’s work on a number of levels. In the “diaries” of both authors, autobiography functions as a means of constantly reasserting the self as a unique and separate individual against the totalizing forces of Fascist propaganda.

Who are you? What are you? From whence have you come? Where are you destined to go? --Socrates As a doorway to the light, this book offers a vision of the world we would create if our lives honored the supreme force, God the Father. Through personal experiences and her own visionary view, the author offers a “feast for thought†illuminated with verses from the Bible. “The finite is the infinite waiting to be freed. Evil (error) is good gone astray ... the misguidance of the One Power. The child of God with the unlit candle upon the altar of the heart is the child who seeks to light the candle but knows it not ... for the breath of ignorance has tombed the wanting sightless eye.†To open the unseeing eyes of the reader, there is a series of explorations, drawn from her life of seeing beyond the doorway into the Light. It is profoundly moving and inspiring. Messages communicated through nature Dreams, voices and visions in “Divine Light†Healing oneself and others with love UFOs Family, relationships, marriage and children Dreamtime/spiritual classroom Crystals as windows of Light and intelligence Transmutation and ascension

We can each radiate unconditional love. We don’t even need to create it – we are love. But the flow of love is blocked in moments of hurt, blame, anger, criticism, competition or insecurity. These emotions have dominated our emotional space, and hardly enable us to feel our own love. So today, we rely on someone else to love us. This book teaches us to think right, enable self-love, feel it and extend it to other people. The central message here is that love is not ‘out there’, but within us. A spectrum of emotions like attachment, expectations, hurt, worry, stress, fear or anger, which we use in the pretext of love, are analysed. The conversations also explore the fact that the parent-child relationship is not challenging – It does not need to be. As you free yourself from judgments and expectations, as you start thinking right for people, and as you accept people for who they are, you become a Radiator of unconditional love. You are one decision away from vibrating at a frequency of love … by not needing love or giving love – but just by being love.
