This text provides the necessary tools and up-to-date information on the morphological approach and most current use of ancillary techniques in the diagnosis and treatment of malignant tumors. The work is divided by sub specialty areas so that the reader can easily obtain the information desired. Features of histopathological lesions are presented in each area, as well as an up-to-date use of the different immunohistochemical stains and molecular biology features, when applicable, which are commonly used to determine treatment modalities. All sub specialty sections are written by sub specialty pathologists with experience in tumor pathology and who work in a cancer center. Each chapter is richly illustrated and properly referenced. Oncological Surgical Pathology will be of use not only for pathologists (including pathology residents and fellows), but also for oncological surgeons, oncologists and interventional radiologists.

In recent years, interest in the management of anterior skull base tumors has been fostered by the introduction and subsequent rapid expansion of indications of transnasal endoscopic techniques. In parallel, extraordinary progress has been made in all the other disciplines which are involved in the complex process of managing anterior skull base tumors, leading to substantial improvements in diagnosis and treatment. The anterior skull base can be involved in a large variety of tumors of a varying nature and histology, which in the majority of cases originate from adjacent anatomic sites. In fact, primary lesions of the anterior skull base mainly include osteoma and other tumors originating from bone and cartilage. Tumors involving the anterior skull base have their origin prevalently in the sinonasal tract, but lesions developing on the intracranial site, such as meningiomas, may also extend caudally to encroach upon this area. All these lesions are rare, which means that the pertinent literature does not include prospective studies or treatment guidelines based on a high level of evidence. In view of the extreme histological variability of lesions involving the anterior skull base, much emphasis has been placed on addressing the different nuances of treatment in relation to histology, especially for malignant tumors. The chapters focusing on surgery provide divergent views on selection criteria for a specific surgical technique, which is the aim of this publication.

This book offers a selection of pertinent patient case-presentations in the field of rhinology, anterior skull base and facial plastics surgery. It further explores the evidence-based management of simple to complex clinical presentations. Each chapter start with the diagnosis and progresses from medical or surgical treatment to the post-operative follow up of the presented clinical condition. The various case reports are concise; however, sufficiently comprehensive and cover conditions from emergencies in adult and paediatric rhinology, to elective care, sino-nasal and anterior skull base neoplasms systemic diseases affecting the nose and paranasal sinuses, and underpinned by illustrations, imaging, and intra-operative photographs to emphasize the clinical approach. Rhinology and Anterior Skull Base Surgery - A Case-based Approach is a highly informative and carefully presented book, providing insights for exam candidates, trainees, general practitioners, rhinologists and otolaryngologists with an interest in anterior skull base, facial plastics and rhinology.

This book presents, in a stepwise and interactive fashion, approximately 75 cases that reflect the wide spectrum of pathology encountered in this region. Each case description commences with a concise clinical scenario. High-quality radiologic, laboratory, and histopathologic images depicting the differentiating features of the lesion subtype in question are then presented, and key operative and clinical management pearls are briefly reviewed. The interdisciplinary nature of this easy-to-use color atlas and textbook reflects the fact that the management of patients with sellar and parasellar lesions is itself often interdisciplinary. The format is unique in that no similar interdisciplinary book is available on lesions of this region of the brain. Atlas of Sellar and Parasellar Lesions: Clinical, Imaging, and Pathologic Correlations is of great value for practitioners and trainees in a range of medical specialties, including radiology, neurology, endocriniology, pathology, oncology, radiation oncology, and neurosurgery.

Doody Rating : 3 stars : The purpose of this book is to present a modern way to treat sinonasal tumors with respect to traditional tumor extirpation principles and the need for radical excisions when the indications arise. Sinonasal Tumors provides a comprehensive resource for the management of benign and malignant tumors of the paranasal sinuses. In Sinonasal Tumors, there are many chapters elaborating on some of the scientific advancements in diagnosis such as improved imaging techniques and pathological diagnosis, as well as ample space devoted to the operative technique and adjunctive trea.

Endoscopic Approaches to the Paranasal Sinuses and Skull Base With the continuing evolution of endoscopic techniques for surgery of lesions of the paranasal sinuses and skull base, and the reduced morbidity associated with this minimally invasive modality, the method has gained widespread use in recent years. This work offers a thorough review of all endoscopic approaches for access to the nose and paranasal sinuses and, through them, to the skull base. Central to this guide is the emphasis on profound knowledge of the complex anatomy in this area, as well as the many vital structures that can be endangered there. To this end, more than 900 full-color images, most photographs from cadaver dissections, are put to brilliant use. Key Features: Internationally renowned specialists and pioneers from Europe and the United States as editors and contributors Full-color photos from fresh cadaver dissections illustrate all steps for each approach Specific anatomic landmarks as revealed during each step are detailed, providing confidence in spatial orientation Correlative CT sections provide crucial additional information Risks and potential complications are included, as well as methods to reduce them Endoscopic Approaches to the Paranasal Sinuses and Skull Base is intended as an indispensable guide for residents, fellows, and specialist surgeons in otolaryngology, neurosurgery, and skull base surgery.

It provides up-to-date information on epidemiology, diagnostic modalities, molecular biology, staging, treatment complications, principles of supportive care, and current controversies. Sinonasal and skull base tumors display histologic and anatomic heterogeneity, as well as wide variation in clinical behavior. Accordingly, they pose significant diagnostic and treatment challenges. A multidisciplinary approach offers the best chance of a successful outcome. In addition to documenting in detail the currently accepted management approaches, this book sheds light on various promising novel therapeutic strategies. Sinonasal and Skull Base Malignancies is an invaluable reference for all specialists involved in treating these tumors, including otolaryngologists, head and neck surgeons, reconstructive surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, neuroradiologists, specialized head and neck pathologists, prosthodontists, and speech and swallow therapists.
