In Nazi Germany, they were called the Schutzstaffeln. The world would know them as the dreaded SS—the most loyal and ruthless enforcers of the Third Reich. It began as a small squad of political thugs. Yet by the end of 1935, the SS had taken control of all police and internal security duties in Germany—ranging from local village “gendarmes” all the way up to the secret political police and the Gestapo. Eventually, its ranks would grow to rival even Germany’s regular armed forces, the Wehrmacht. Going beyond the myths and characterizations, Army of Evil reveals the reality of the SS as a cadre of unwavering political fanatics and power-seeking opportunists who slavishly followed an ideology that disdained traditional morality—an ideology that they were prepared to implement to the utmost murderous extreme, which ultimately resulted in the Holocaust. This is a definitive historical narrative of the birth, legacy, and demise of one of the most feared political and military organizations ever known—and of those twisted, cruel men who were responsible for one of the most appalling crimes against humanity in history. INCLUDES RARE PHOTOGRAPHS

One of the most controversial yet least studied pages of Ukraine's Second World War history is that of the Waffen SS 'Galicia' Division. This book examines the variety of often conflicting narratives created by the Division members, their supporters and their opponents, as well as the continuing influence of these narratives today.

During the Nazi regime's swift rise to power, no single target of nazification took higher priority than Germany's young people. Well aware that the Nazi party could thrive only through the support of future generations, Hitler instituted a youth movement, the Hitler Jugend (Hitler Youth), which indoctrinated the easily malleable students of Germany's schools and universities. Along with its female counterpart, the Bund deutscher Madel (League of German Girls), the Hitler Youth produced many thousands of young Germans who were deeply and fanatically imbued with the Nazi racist ideology. This heavily illustrated book outlines the history and development of the Hitler Youth from its origins in 1922 until it was disbanded by the allied powers in 1945.

In Hitler’s Foreign Executioners, Heinrich Himmler’s secret master plan for Europe is revealed: an SS empire that would have no place for either the Nazi Party or Adolf Hitler. His astonishingly ambitious plan depended on the recruitment of tens of thousands of ‘Germanic’ peoples from every corner of Europe, and even parts of Asia, to build an ‘SS Europa’. This revised and fully updated book, researched in archives all over Europe and using first-hand testimony, exposes Europe’s dirty secret: nearly half a million Europeans and more than a million Soviet citizens enlisted in the armed forces of the Third Reich to fight a deadly crusade against a mythic foe, Jewish Bolshevism. Even today, some apologists claim that these foreign SS volunteers were merely soldiers ‘like any other’ and fought a decent war against Stalin’s Red Army. Historian Christopher Hale demonstrates conclusively that these surprisingly common views are mistaken. By taking part in Himmler’s murderous master plan, these foreign executioners hoped to prove that they were worthy of joining his future ‘SS Europa’. But as the Reich collapsed in 1944, Himmler’s monstrous scheme led to bitter confrontations with Hitler – and to the downfall of the man once known as ‘loyal Heinrich’.

Between 1939 and 1945, close to 13 million men served in the German army - das Heer. The bulk of these men were infantrymen, who slogged their way, mostly on foot, from Finisterre to Moscow, Kirkenes to Tripoli. They swore unlimited obedience to Adolf Hitler and were ready to stake their lives for this oath: over 1.6 million men of das Heer were killed during the war and over 4.1 million were wounded.

Siegrunen 80. Second Edition (May 2012). When this issue was first published in 2009, it was Siegrunen's 33rd year of publication. This is Siegrunen's third book-length issue. This new format for Siegrunen provides more content, including some revised reprints from long out-of-print back issues. Siegrunen grew out of editor Richard Landwehr's inability to locate any adequate amount of published, accurate material on the Waffen-SS and, in particular, the non-German volunteer units in the 1960s, so he took a chance that by publishing a journal he might attract more sources of "good" information-and it worked. He also strongly felt that the "volunteers" were being given the shaft by the mainstream media, if they were ever mentioned at all. The "establishment" defamation was, and remains, staggering. It did not take him very long to discover that these were not criminals, but for the most part, were above-average individuals, highly motivated, skilled and courageous who happened to belong to an elite military organization (the Waffen-SS), that was so far ahead of its time that we still have not yet caught up to it. Contents: Waffen-Hauptsturmführer der SS Boris Jankaus and the Latvian Commando Troops of the Waffen-SS; Waffen-Hauptsturmführer der SS Peteris Cevers; Waffen-Obersturmführer der SS Teodors Kalnajs; Flemish Waffen-SS Officers and Volunteers; The Convalescent Company of the SS-Freiwilligenlegion "Flandern"; Flemish Guardsmen to Waffen-SS Soldiers; Dutch Waffen-SS Miscellany; Waffen-SS Miscellany; Norwegian Officers of the Waffen-SS; Icelandic Volunteers of the Waffen-SS; An Ethnic German Winner of the Knight's Cross: SS-Oberscharführer Stefan Strapatin; Caught Behind the Lines; Notes on the 32nd SS Grenadier Division "30 Januar"; SS Division "Nord" at Salla: The Anatomy of a Disaster; Waffen-SS Flak (Air Defense) Troops: An Overview; SS Flak Detachment 13 and SS Corps Flak Detachment 509, IX. SS Mountain Corps; Led by a Traitor!; An Unknown Waffen-SS Knight's Cross Holder: SS-Obersturmführer Adolf Obschil; Waffen-SS Personalities; International Waffen-SS Volunteers: A Photo Portfolio; Waffen-SS Insignia; 111 photos.
