This is an extensive and far-reaching examination of Sharia law and its incompatibility with Western-derived concepts of human rights. Bringing together a collection of recent essays, this volume elucidates, unapologetically, Sharia's defining Islamic religious principles and the consequences of its application, with a focus on contemporary settings. A wealth of unambiguous evidence is marshalled, distilled, and analysed - including objective, erudite studies of Sharia by leading scholars of Islam; the acknowledgement of Sharia's global resurgence; and the plaintive warnings of contemporary Muslim intellectuals, believers and freethinkers alike, about the incompatibility of Sharia with modern concepts of human rights.

Author Andrew G. Bostom expands upon his two previous groundbreaking compendia, The Legacy of Jihad and The Legacy of Islamic Antisemitism, with this collection of his own recent essays on Sharia - Islamic law. The book elucidates, unapologetically, Sharia's defining Islamic religious principles and the consequences of its application across space and time, focusing upon contemporary illustrations. A wealth of unambiguous evidence is marshaled, distilled, and analyzed, including: objective, erudite studies of Sharia by leading scholars of Islam; the acknowledgment of Sharia's global "resurgence," even by contemporary academic apologists for Islam; an abundance of recent polling data from Muslim nations and Muslim immigrant communities in the West confirming the ongoing, widespread adherence to Sharia's tenets; the plaintive warnings and admonitions of contemporary Muslim intellectuals - freethinkers and believers, alike - about the incompatibility of Sharia with modern, Western-derived conceptions of universal human rights; and the overt promulgation by authoritative, mainstream international and North American Islamic religious and political organizations of traditional, Sharia-based Muslim legal systems as an integrated whole (i.e., extending well beyond mere "family-law aspects" of Sharia). Johannes J. G. Jansen, Professor for Contemporary Islamic Thought Emeritus at Utrecht University, says this book "will prove sobering to even staunch optimists."

In the classical Islamic ideology of conquest, the first choice offered to non-Muslims was conversion to Islam; the second choice was the sword; and the third was surrender. Mark Durie's innovative book exposes the history and ideology of surrender - the 'Third Choice' - which has determined the lived reality of non-Muslims - known as 'dhimmis' - living under Muslim rule. Durie grounds his analysis of the dhimmi condition in the teachings of Islam and the life of Muhammad. His ground-breaking analyses show how the ideology of the terms of surrender ' known as a 'dhimma' pact ' determines life for non-Muslims under Islamic dominance. The worldview of dhimmitude, he argues, offers indispensable keys for understanding current trends in global politics, including the widening impact of sharia revival, deterioration of human rights in Islamic societies, jihad terrorism, recurring patterns of Western appeasement, and the increasingly fraught relationship between migrant Muslim communities in the West and their host societies.

Available now for the first time in English, the most important work of one of the great moderate political leaders of the Muslim world Rached Ghannouchi has long been known as a reformist or moderate Islamist thinker. In Public Freedoms in the Islamic State, his most influential book, he argues that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights—in its broad outlines—should be widely accepted by Muslims under the correct interpretation of Islamic law and theology. Under his theory of the purposes of Shari‘a, justice and human welfare are not exclusive to Islamic governance, and the objectives of Islamic law can be advanced in multiple ways. Appearing in English translation here for the first time, this book is a major statement by one of the most important political theorists in the modern Middle East.

Why hasn't Secretary of State Kerry banned, jailed and frozen assets of ISIS and Muslim Brotherhood leaders in USA as Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Saudi Arabia & Egypt are doing right now in their own countries??Why are we sending intelligence & military expertise to fight ISIS, instead of simply cutting off extremist funding & Muslim Brotherhood leadership right here in America? How could our Commander-in-Chief, President Obama, possibly say that "The Islamic State (ISIS) is not Islamic". What is going on? ISIS in Syria is not our biggest problem. Radical Islam in AMERICA is our biggest problem, in its violent and non-violent forms. The political movement of Radical Islam, known as Sharia-ism is branching out across America seeking to over-rule our constitutional liberties to accommodate their fundamental version of Islam. And reporters, journalists, politicians, publishers, law enforcement & even our FBI must not question or criticize their actions lest they violate freedom of religion. Sharia-ism denies individual liberties and erodes secularism. And Sharia-ism is a lot more than simple terrorism. Just read these examples, which you will find in this book: On Sept 25 2014, a black former prison inmate beheaded his fellow woman co-worker as he shouted Koranic verses at an Oklahoma food processing plant. In 2009, FBI director Robert Mueller himself stated that radical Muslim prison chaplains were converting 1 in 3 African American inmates in U.S Prisons to Radical Islam. Today, the U.S. Prison Dept. continues to work with this same "moderate" Muslim Brotherhood group to select chaplains. In 2012, the U.S. House Intelligent Committee flatly refused to investigate the Muslim Brotherhood in America, calling this request by fellow Congressmen, "insensitive" and discriminatory. Young American Muslim girls by the hundreds and possibly thousands are being sent on vacation each year during school breaks, to forcibly marry a strange relative. She returns as his "vacation bride" and sexual servant, and her fundamental Muslim husband applies for U.S. Citizenship. Faced with greater numbers of vacation brides, Germany & Great Britain have created special airport security teams to identify & protect suspected young victims, and shut down this pipeline of extremist new immigrant men. Where does religion end and politics begin? How can we protect freedom of religion and keep Americans and America safe? How are European Leaders drawing this line? This colorful, pocket sized, easy to read, Show N Tell Book explains what is going on in America. Each page is description of one of 60+ American or European news stories from 2008 - 2014, with a quote, photo, and context provided by over 75 experts. Women's rights activist and author, Joy Brighton, provides bullet point chapter summaries and green "insight boxes" to help readers connect the dots. This book is written for busy Americans who are concerned that political correctness is backfiring in America. And, they have only 5 minutes while drinking their morning coffee to understand the real problem and be part of the solution.

Religious Freedom in Islam

Since at least the attacks of September 11, 2001, one of the most pressing political questions of the age has been whether Islam is hostile to religious freedom. Daniel Philpott examines conditions on the ground in forty-seven Muslim-majority countries today and offers an honest, clear-eyed answer to this urgent question. It is not, however, a simple answer. From a satellite view, the Muslim world looks unfree. But, Philpott shows, the truth is much more complex. Some one-fourth of Muslim-majority countries are in fact religiously free. Of the other countries, about forty percent are governed not by Islamists but by a hostile secularism imported from the West, while the other sixty percent are Islamist. The picture that emerges is both honest and hopeful. Yes, most Muslim-majority countries are lacking in religious freedom. But, Philpott argues, the Islamic tradition carries within it "seeds of freedom," and he offers guidance for how to cultivate those seeds in order to expand religious freedom in the Muslim world and the world at large. It is an urgent project. Religious freedom promotes goods like democracy and the advancement of women that are lacking in the Muslim-majority world and reduces ills like civil war, terrorism, and violence. Further, religious freedom is simply a matter of justice--not an exclusively Western value, but rather a universal right rooted in human nature. Its realization is critical to the aspirations of religious minorities and dissenters in Muslim countries, to Muslims living in non-Muslim countries or under secular dictatorships, and to relations between the West and the Muslim world. In this thoughtful book, Philpott seeks to establish a constructive middle ground in a fiery and long-lasting debate over Islam.

“A delightfully original take on…the prospects for liberal democracy in the broader Islamic Middle East.”—Matthew Kaminski, Wall Street Journal As the Arab Spring threatens to give way to authoritarianism in Egypt and reports from Afghanistan detail widespread violence against U.S. troops and women, news from the Muslim world raises the question: Is Islam incompatible with freedom? In Islam without Extremes, Turkish columnist Mustafa Akyol answers this question by revealing the little-understood roots of political Islam, which originally included both rationalist, flexible strains and more dogmatic, rigid ones. Though the rigid traditionalists won out, Akyol points to a flourishing of liberalism in the nineteenth-century Ottoman Empire and the unique “Islamo-liberal synthesis” in present-day Turkey. As he powerfully asserts, only by accepting a secular state can Islamic societies thrive. Islam without Extremes offers a desperately needed intellectual basis for the reconcilability of Islam and liberty.
