Excerpt from Services Commemorative of the Seventy-Seventh Anniversary of the Union Methodist Episcopal Church, Philadelphia: May 31, June 1 and 2, 1878 The commemorative services began on Friday evening with a tea-drinking sociable. Though the weather was stormy, there were about three hundred and seventy-five persons pres ent. The lecture-room was filled with tables, and one ran the length of the passage-way in the basement of the church. The company gathered in the main audience-room, and spent the time socially until about half-past seven o'clock, when they were invited to partake of the good things provided for them. The tables and walls had been tastefully decorated, and presented a beautiful scene. The Doxology was sung, and Rev. Bishop Scott invoked the divine blessing, after which courteous attend ants helped our friends seated at the various tables. Great credit is due to the ladies who had charge of this enjoyable occasion. After eating, the company gathered in the audience-room, and at half-past eight o'clock the pastor called them to order, and addresses were made by Rev. C. H. Whitecar, Rev. J. I.
