Get a clear, logical, and holistic approach to physical examination and health assessment across the lifespan! Using easy-to-follow language, detailed illustrations, summary checklists, and new learning resources Physical Examination and Health Assessment, 3rd Canadian Edition is the gold-standard in physical examination textbooks. This new edition reflects the latest in what is happening in nursing today with coverage of emerging trends, examples of how to document patient assessments using the Electronic Health Record, and new evidence-informed content throughout. It's easy to see why this text is #1 with Canadian nursing students! A two-column format distinguishes normal findings from abnormal findings, and uses colour, step-by-step photos to clarify examination techniques and expected findings. Sectional colour bars segment body systems according to content (Structure and Function, Subjective Data, Objective Data, Documentation and Critical Thinking, Abnormal Findings). Summary checklists offer reviews of key examination steps. Documentation and Critical Thinking sections provide real world clinical examples of specific patients and how to document assessment findings. Abnormal findings tables help you recognize, sort, and describe abnormalities. Separate chapter on Pregnancy provides a thorough foundation for assessing the pregnant patient. Developmental Considerations sections highlight content specific to infants, children, adolescents, pregnant women, and older adults. Promoting Health boxes focus on this key aspect of Canadian health care. NEW! Content covering the Electronic Health Record, charting, and narrative recording provides examples of how to document assessment findings. UPDATED Case Studies provide you with opportunities to test and develop your analytical skills and apply what you’ve learned. NEW! Approximately 150 normal and abnormal examination photos for the nose, mouth, throat, thorax, and pediatric assessment gives you a fresh perspective on these key system examinations, with cultural diversity and developmental variations. NEW! Social determinants of health considerations cover the shifting landscape of Canada’s populations with strategies for integrating social, economic and ethnocultural diversity into your health assessments. NEW! Assessment strategies relevant to Indigenous populations, harm reduction, nutrition, and transgender persons inform practitioners on respectful, complete care.

We proudly present the proceedings of 2nd International Seminar on Translation Studies, Applied Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies 2020 (STRUKTURAL 2020). It focuses on how disruptive era influences participants field of researches, especially in Humanities and Social Studies. As we know, the world today is changing and the world we are facing now is the one where everything is connected. Not only are our PCs, our tablets, our hand phones, and other devices connected but everything that happens in societies is also now “connected”. Today, even a robbery incident in a small village has a possibility to make a city in another part of the world collapse. This butterfly effect of social change may also give a big impact in our understanding and our field of study of social sciences and humanities. More than 70 manuscripts were presented at this conference with around 41 of them selected to be published in proceedings. We hope by this conference, discussions on how research on humanities and social studies is possible in a disruptive era will give a perspective for the social and humanities studies development.

This book establishes a new theoretical and practical framework for multimodal disciplinary literacy (MDL) fused with the subject-specific science pedagogies of senior high school biology, chemistry and physics. It builds a compatible alignment of multiple representation and representation construction approaches to science pedagogy with the social semiotic, systemic functional linguistic-based approaches to explicit teaching of disciplinary literacy. The early part of the book explicates the transdisciplinary negotiated theoretical underpinning of the MDL framework, followed by the research-informed repertoire of learning experiences that are then articulated into a comprehensive framework of options for the planning of classroom work. Practical adoption and adaptation of the framework in biology, chemistry and physics classrooms are detailed in separate chapters. The latter chapters indicate the impact of the collaborative research on teachers' professional learning and students’ multimodal disciplinary literacy engagement, concluding with proposals for accommodating emerging developments in MDL in an ever-changing digital communication world. The MDL framework is designed to enable teachers to develop all students' disciplinary literacy competencies. This book will be of interest to researchers, teacher educators and postgraduate students in the field of science education. It will also have appeal to those in literacy education and social semiotics.
