The USAir Force human capital management (HCM) system is not easily defined or mapped. It affects virtually every part of the Air Force because workforce policies, procedures, and processes impact all offices and organizations that include Airmen and responsibilities and relationships change regularly. To ensure the readiness of Airmen to fulfill the mission of the Air Force, strategic approaches are developed and issued through guidance and actions of the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Manpower, Personnel and Services and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Manpower and Reserve Affairs. Strengthening US Air Force Human Capital Management assesses and strengthens the various U.S. Air Force initiatives and programs working to improve person-job match and human capital management in coordinated support of optimal mission capability. This report considers the opportunities and challenges associated with related interests and needs across the USAF HCM system as a whole, and makes recommendations to inform improvements to USAF personnel selection and classification and other critical system components across career trajectories. Strengthening US Air Force Human Capital Management offers the Air Force a strategic approach, across a connected HCM system, to develop 21st century human capital capabilities essential for the success of 21st century Airmen.

Explore and advance bioinformatics and systems biology tools for crop breeding programs in this practical resource for researchers Plant biology and crop breeding have produced an immense amount of data in recent years, from genomics to interactome and beyond. Bioinformatics tools, which aim at analyzing the vast quantities of data produced by biological research and processes, have developed at a rapid pace to meet the challenges of this vast data trove. The resulting field of bioinformatics and systems biology is producing increasingly rich and transformative research. Bioinformatics for Plant Research and Crop Breeding offers an overview of this field, its recent advances, and its wider applications. Drawing on a range of analytical and data-science tools, its foundation on an in-silico platform acquired multi-omics makes it indispensable for scientists and researchers alike. It promises to become ever more relevant as new techniques for generating and organizing data continue to transform the field. Bioinformatics for Plant Research and Crop Breeding readers will also find: A focus on emerging trends in plant science, sustainable agriculture, and global food security Detailed discussion of topics including plant diversity, plant stresses, nanotechnology in agriculture, and many others Applications incorporating artificial intelligence, machine learning, deep learning and more Bioinformatics for Plant Research and Crop Breeding is ideal for researchers and scientists interested in the potential of OMICs, and bioinformatic tools to aid and develop crop improvement programs.

In the United States, the critical task of preserving our plant genetic resources is the responsibility of the National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS). NPGS undergoes a thorough analysis in this book, which offers wide-ranging recommendations for equipping the agency to better meet U.S. needsâ€"and lead international conservation efforts. The book outlines the importance and status of plant genetic conservation and evaluates NPGS's multifaceted operations. Two options for revamping NPGS within the U.S. Department of Agriculture are included.

Millets and sorghum are extremely important crops in many developing nations and because of the ability of many of them to thrive in low-moisture situations they represent some exciting opportunities for further development to address the continuing and increasing impact of global temperature increase on the sustainability of the world’s food crops. The main focus of this thorough new book is the potential for crop improvement through new and traditional methods, with the book’s main chapters covering the following crops: sorghum, pearl millet, finger millet, foxtail milet, proso millet, little millet, barnyard millet, kodo millet, tef and fonio. Further chapters cover pests and diseases, nutritional and industrial importance, novel tools for improvement, and seed systems in millets. Millets and Sorghum provides full and comprehensive coverage of these crucially important crops, their biology, world status and potential for improvement, and is an essential purchase for crop and plant scientists, and food scientists and technologists throughout the developed and developing world. All libraries in universities and research establishment where biological and agricultural sciences are studied and taught should have copies of this important book on their shelves.
