En este libro se introduce al lector en los conceptos básicos de los sistemas distribuidos aplicados a la implementación de sistemas de tiempo real, sistemas en los cuales los tiempos de respuesta forman parte de la corrección de su respuesta y que deben, asimismo, interactuar con los elementos físicos de su entorno. Se plantea la problemática de los sistemas distribuidos de tiempo real, para a continuación profundizar en varios aspectos claves como son la arquitectura de red y las herramientas de implementación. Se ha escogido la especificación POSIX para particularizar y poner ejemplos prácticos de los diferentes conceptos presentados en cada capítulo. La decisión ha estado motivada por la gran generalidad y la alta implantación de POSIX como referencia de gran parte de los sistemas operativos para equipos de tiempo real. De forma general, el contenido de los capítulos de esta obra se pueden agrupar en tres bloques: un primer bloque dedicado a ofrecer una visión global de la problemática asociada a los sistemas distribuidos, un segundo bloque dedicado a los aspectos específicos de la arquitectura TCP/IP y un tercer bloque dedicado al estudio de una interfaz de programación distribuida.
