The authors present the results of the first search for a new particle X produced in p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV and subsequently decaying to Z[gamma]. The search uses 0.3 fb−1 of data collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. They set limits on the production cross section times the branching fraction [sigma](p{bar p} → X) x B(X → Z[gamma]) that range from 0.4-3.5 pb at the 95% C.L. for X with invariant masses between 100 and 1000 GeV/c2 over a wide range of X decay widths.

The authors present a study of the dijet invariant mass distribution for the reaction {bar p}p → 2 jets+? + X, at a center of mass energy of 1.8 TeV, using data collected by the CDF experiment. They compare the data to predictions for the production of a photon with two jets, together with the resonant processes {bar p}p → W/Z +? + X, in which the W and Z bosons decay hadronically. A fit is made to the dijet invariant mass distribution combining the non-resonant background and resonant processes. They use the result to establish a limit for the inclusive production cross section of W/Z +? with hadronic decay of the W and Z bosons.

The authors present a study of the dijet invariant mass distribution for the reaction {bar p}p → 2 jets+[gamma] + X, at a center of mass energy of 1.8 TeV, using data collected by the CDF experiment. They compare the data to predictions for the production of a photon with two jets, together with the resonant processes {bar p}p → W/Z + [gamma] + X, in which the W and Z bosons decay hadronically. A fit is made to the dijet invariant mass distribution combining the non-resonant background and resonant processes. They use the result to establish a limit for the inclusive production cross section of W/Z + [gamma] with hadronic decay of the W and Z bosons.

Z[degrees] bosons have been produced by collisions of longitudinally polarized electrons with unpolarized positrons at the SLAC Linear Collider and their decays have been recorded by the SLD experiment. We present preliminary measurements of the properties of the resulting Z[degrees] decays into multi-hadronic final states. We find good agreement with the predictions of perturbative QCD and fragmentation models.

The search for the production of the Standard Model Z boson in association with a W boson is motivated and discussed. This is performed using 4.3 fb−1 of Tevatron Run II data collected with the CDF detector in (square root)s = 1.96 TeV proton anti-proton collisions. This is a signature-based analysis where the W boson decays semileptonically into a high-P{sub T} electron or muon plus a neutrino, and where the Z boson decays into two b quark jets (b-jets). We increase the signal-to-background ratio by identifying the b-quarks in the jets with a new neural network-based algorithm. Another neural network then uses kinematic information to distinguish WZ to further increase the signal-to-background ratio. Since our sensitivity is still not enough to achieve an observation, we set a 95% Confidence Level upper limit on the product of the WZ production cross section and its branching fraction to the decay products specified above, and express it as a ratio to the theoretical Standard Model prediction. The resulting limit is 3.9 x SM (3.9 x SM expected).

Searches for events with new particle topologies in 455 hadronic Z decays with the Mark 2 detector at SLC are presented. 95% confidence level lower limits of 40.7 GeV/c2 for the top quark mass and 42.0 GeV/c2 for the mass of a fourth generation charge - 1/3 quark, regardless of decay mode, are obtained. For a fourth generation sequential Dirac neutrino?4 mass up to 43 GeV/c2. Decays of the Z boson to a pair of non-minimal Higgs bosons (Z → H{sub s}°H{sub p}°), where one of them is relatively light ({approx lt} 10 GeV/c2), are also considered. Limits are obtained on the ZH{sub s}°H{sub p}° coupling as a function of the Higgs boson masses. 11 refs., 2 figs., 2 tabs.

We present a search for exclusive Z boson production in proton-antiproton collisions at √s = 1.96 TeV, using the CDF II detector at Fermilab. We observe no exclusive Z → l+l− candidates and place the first upper limit on the exclusive Z cross section in hadron collisions, [sigma]{sub excl}(Z) 0.96 pb at 95% confidence level. In addition, we observe eight candidate exclusive dilepton events from the quantum electrodynamic process p{bar p} → p[gamma][gamma]{bar p} → pl+l− {bar p}, and measure the cross section for M{sub l{ell}} 40 GeV=c2 and.
