This edition of the Seacliff Chronicles has two major sections: "Affected Areas" and "Earth Artist."Affected Areas begins with a summary of the massive storm damage that took place at the end of 2022 and beginning of 2023 that was inflicted upon the Central California Coast. The storms completely destroyed the pier at Seacliff Beach, seriously damaged the Capitola Wharf, and created huge piles of sand and tree trunks at Rio Del Mar Beach.The Earth Artist section that follows, contains hundreds of original photos that reveal the true beauty of the coast in all of its glory.Seacliff offers a unique venue of atmospheric conditions that create an ever changing show of clouds at the intersection where the cooler marine air meets the warmer air inland in the Santa Cruz Mountains. This generates a profusion of cloud types that often quickly form and dissipate.In addition, there are many, high altitude international flights that generate contrails as ice crystals form around particles in the jet engine's exhaust. These contrails often interact with cumulus and cirrus clouds forming unique shapes and patterns.In the evening there is a fascinating change in the colors of clouds on the horizon. As the Earth rotates, the color spectrum of light from the setting sun changes from the shorter blue wavelengths to the longer reds. The combination of a wide range of evolving shapes and palette of colors is like a dynamic canvas where the Earth Artist creates extraordinary works of art- each unique in its own fashion and evolving as we watch in awe from down below.
